Used my 20% discount from C.I. Total was 98 bucks. They wanted to charge 22 bucks to ship. I said no @@@@@@@ way. They dropped it to 16. Thats bad enough but better.
I can not beleive what they charge for shipping. I guess what really amazes me is that people pay it! When I lived in Irvine, CA we used to go there on Saturday mornings. You'd have to take a number and wait in line sometimes for an hour to get up to the counter. Now I know why, anyone is who lucky enough to be even remotely close just goes there.
On the flip side, we have an NPD about and hour an 20 mins from us. There shipping is so reasonable, that it's usually not even worth driving there, not too mention you get the parts the next day (living as close as we do)...
400plus, most of these places get their parts from the same supplier. I usually ALWAYS go to Ames first, NPD second. The ONLY issue I had with NPD was I had bought about $1500 in parts from them a month before our Bird was hit.
Once I realized we would not be rebuilding the bird I took a ride out to NPD to return all of the unopened parts I had bought from them. It was about 45 days after my purchase and they nailed me with a heafty restocking fee.
I think what pissed me off what that on the same day I had purchased the $1500 in parts, my friend Mike went with me and made a good size purchase and another friend had gone with us as we and purchased about $2000 in parts for a 4-speed conv. on his ElCamino. Now neither of these guys would have bought from NPD had we not all gone there together and our sales person knew this as we had gotten to know him on a first name basis.
I had even taken pics of the Bird before and after the accident just so they would know I wasn't BS them. A 20% restocking fee on parts never openened and only 45 days after purchase was a bit much IMO.
My friend Mike, who own 14 classics will never buy from them again. I have convinced him to buy exclusively from Ames...
we have a store/shop here in town "Camaro Concepts" who restores/works on Camaros and FireBirds....they sell CIs stuff , no shipping...they are 3 mi from me....nice friendly people, they also have car shows a few times a year.
I now just email them, with the CI part #'s, and Cheri orders them with all her other stuff, charges me flat USPS rates, and often a better price than CI. Plus she is so pleasant and friendly to deal with. Not like the CI nazi's..
