Thought I would start a new thread about this. I looked at three 69 maros(all coupes) last night at a cruise-in. None of them had arm rests in the back. Or ash trays. I guess the ash tray is in the rear of the console. Since we know the body dimentions are the same it would make sense that the seats themselves would be wider. Not really positive yet but now I'm curious. Only way this matters is if someone was looking to use a maro seat in a bird. Might be good info to know in case it comes up.
I believe that rear arm rests were optional in Maro's, so there are two different width's of seats. And I believe that rear arm rests were standard in all birds.
The deluxe interior Camaro's had the arm rest's like I believe all Firebird's have. So yes there are two sizes of rear seat's in the Camaro. This is for non fold down seat though
Hey guys, Im a 30 year camaro guy. Camaros have std and deluxe interiors. The deluxe interior has the armrest/ashtray in the back, so the back seat is 6" shorter. Also, the shorter rear seat was used for folddown seats do to brackets. Hope that helps. Firebirds, Im guessing, are the same since they had deluxe interiors also.
std and deluxe interiors in Forebirds are a little different....If I recall correct the rear seats are all the same but the doors are where the "deluxe" comes in....molded door panels in deluxe...I was lucky enough to get deluxe w/o knowing it when I bought mine...I thought they all looked like that! lol
dillin, glad you could lend some of your camaro knowlege. Firebird back seats were the same size whether std or deluxe, coupe or vert.
So the difference between std and deluxe interiors on a camaro was just the addition of arm rests and the resuling size of the seat on coupes? Was there a patterrn difference to the seat coverings? When they added the ash trays in the side panels, did they eliminate the one on the back of the console?
Firebirds all had the same Rear seat widths to incorporate the armrests. Standard/Deluxe/Coupe/Vert
Camaro's had wider seats for the standard models, shorter for the Deluxe and the verts I believe.
67 Firebirds had the rear ashtray in the consoles I believe the 67 Camaros kept this design through 67/68 then with the new styled console for 68/into 69 for the Camaro's tehy still had a rear ashtray. The Burlwood Cover for the 68/69 Firebirds eliminated the rear ashtray. Probably overkill with two rear ashtrays standard in the armrests.
I thought I heard that some of the camaros had the ashtrays moved into the verticle side panels. Did they do this only on the std int cars in 69 because they didn't have arm rests and the deluxe cars had them in the arm rests? Camaros are very confusing cars, I think.
I had a 68 Camaro RS/SS conv. with deluxe int. and as mentioned above, the rear did have arm rests/ashtrays. However, that car did not have the fold down option nor did I own it long enough to add the option...
Well I'm assuming that all fold downs were deluxe(maro) int sized. I wonder if you could even order a fold down with std int? Seems like you'd need the arm rest side panels for the smaller seat size. Then again I wonder if you could get std int in a vert because you got the arm rests anyway?
The deluxe interiors option changed the door panels and seat covers. The buckets have thicker foam for the deluxe covers, so you cant put deluxe seat cover on a std foam seat. I think someone else stated it correctly too, that the deluxe added ashtrays to the rear panels, therefore, needing smaller rear seat.
Firebirds rear seats were all the same?? Did birds with std interior have rear ashtrays?? I know they had deluxe seats and door panels. I cant believe they used convt. short seats for coupes and used filler panels on all their cars.
You could have a fold down with std interior; the seat had std cover, the rear panels were std w/o ashtrays, the rear seat was small and it had the plastic filler panels like for a convertible.
Yes, but its a convertible. I was relating to coupes with usually a larger back seat. Your's proves that the rear ashtrays wasnt for deluxe interiors only. If ALL firebirds had the smaller/fold down/convt. rear seat, then the firebird coupes must have rear ashtrays or at least the plastic filler panels between the seat and side panel.
I would say all birds used the shorter rear seats. Here is my standard interior 68 coup. It's got ash trays and filler panels beside the seat back. I don't have the fold down seat. The seat back is the same width as the base.
When refering to seats and seat sizes please specify whether camaro or firebird info.
All firebird seats, std or deluxe, had the smaller seat size w/arm rests and a filler panel above. (The way it ought to be)
Evidently there were many different ways the back seat in a camaro could be had. Coupe: Std or deluxe covers, short seat w/arm rests-deluxe(std?), long seat w/o arm rests-std only. Vert: Std or deluxe covers, short seat w/arm rests only. Fold Down Seat: Std or deluxe covers, coupe or vert-short seat w/ arm rests only.
Is this correct information? I wonder if it changed during the first gen years? I would like to see a camaro coupe with a fold down w/o arm rests.
You can put deluxe bucket seat covers on a seat with std foam(firebird). I've done it.
