I'm looking at buying a Firebird TH400 kickdown switch. The seller and I both want to agree on a price that is fair for both of us, but neither of us really know what a switch in good working condition complete with rubber boot is worth. Anyone bought/sold one recently or know what a fair price would be?
Looks like I need one too, so if you find a second one...

I bought mine from Craig (68tpls400) for +-$150, as he had an extra one at that time. Apparently, his latest purchase is not equipped with one. I've purchased more than a dozen auto FGF's in my life and only one or two have had the factory kickdown switch intact. I guess they must have failed fairly frequently.

Are they the same for th400? I thought '67-'68 were different?
Can I get it back?

I looked at my '68 last night. Yep, they are the same!
I could use that one back for my new coupe. Hindsight is always 20-20.

So I dropped in to my local junk yard today. I haven't been there in 20+ years. Told them I was looking for an old Pontiac kickdown switch. He looked at me crosseyed, and said "if you can find anything left, we have a couple of '68 'birds out in the far pasture". I hiked what seemed to be about 2 miles and saw the first bird. It was a Verdoro green 'vert. It looked like it has been sitting there for 20 years as well. I lifted up the smashed hood, and Wa-la! Score! Correct kick-down switch, bracket, and bolt, still mounted to the carb. $15 and I ran like a bandit. I was able to grab two sets of tailight screws, a gas tank door, and some other misc. parts for another $5. Not much left of the car other than a couple of Ivy green deluxe seatblets and clips... So they are still out there, you just need to look. I'll have to start visiting the old junk yards more often.

You are incredibly lucky. When I go to the junkyard and mention a 1960's vehicle, they laugh at me.
This yard has vehicles all the way back to the teens. (as in 1918)
Saw a ton of 30's and '40's too. Pretty cool stuff. Lot's of '60's Mustangs. Only saw one first gen 'Maro.
Saw a pretty nice 1972 firebird. Pea green with a green interior. Looked pretty much complete, without much rust.

There is a junkyard near me that charges 15 dollars just to look. They have 5 birds though and a fw camaros, gtos, lemans and some others. I have got a few parts from them. There is still some more to be had. They only alow you in on saturdays between 10 and 2.
No, the carb was 2bl. Both engine and carb looked 100 years old.

What does a 68 Th400 kickdown switch look like? All I have is a vac line from the carb to the Th400. It kickdowns fine (floor it) but when I just cruise it drops back to 2nd. Wrong vac line source?
