Just paging through a few dealer invoices and billing cards I have here (probably a dozen) I find at least three codes not on Sean's list. I emailed him with updates.
What prompted me was a recent addition to his list almost at the bottom, about a guy ordering a car through the PX to take delivery when he returned from SE Asia. I had heard such things happened, but had not heard any specific stories. Reason this interested me was my 69 Sprint appears to be one of those cars, and I've been hoping to answer this mystery for many years.
Mine has two dealer codes. The "charge to" is code 79 001, which is GM Overseas Operations, located at 757 5th Ave NY NY. But the "ship to" code is 79 015, not on Sean's list. I never really noticed before, because my invoice is virtually unreadable, and in light of that (and apparently some early 69's still had a billing card) I received a billing card for that car. But even that document is pale, so pale that only the car-specific info can be read. The frame of the form is barely discernable, but not the little titles. When I placed it next to a couple of 68 bc's, I saw what was missing. I was told the car came from upstate New York by the guy Dad bought the car from, he was the father of the second owner and knew very little. Never met the actual owner. This was in 1975.
mine came with the original warrenty book with all the tear out warrenty cards still in the back, you can see where the protectoplate was originally with the book. I need to scan all my info and i'll forward it off to whoever is collecting the data. I had found the build sheet years ago when i replaced the original carpet and was given a bunch of bills and documents passed from the guy who bought the car new to the second owner. Im now the third owner and the car has stayed pretty much untouched. Im really interested to find out if the dealer code 7-859 matches the information on my paperwork. Craig

I dont have any information on zone 6 dealer 75 and Seans site does not have any posted. We will record it here as a mystery to be solved and I will forward it to Sean. Any additional info will be helpful. Geographic, etc.
I think I'm the 4th owner with the orig owner who lived in Maine I believe. Is it poss. to go to sec of state and find out any info I think it would be neat to find the original owner.
Here is what I did to find my original owner and dealer.
I did a title search at the DMV in the state that I had it registered in. About 10$. Gave them current title number and vin and previous title numbers and a copy of the title. Be careful, sometimes people get vin numbers transposed on titles, insurance cards, so be sure to send title number if you have it. They mailed back the records that they had. Repeated this process for three more states until I got back to the original title.
The original title had the manufacturers statement of origin with it which had the dealers name and zone and dealer codes.
Talked with the dealers son who remembered his dad selling car to his best friend in High School. He gave me the phone number of the original owner who was surprised and pleased to hear from me.
Call the state DMV and get instructions for this. Be sure to include return postage and addressed envelope. Be sure to get phone nuber of someone that you can talk to and be real nice to them. This process took several months.
There is some conflicting info. out there. Some sites list zone 01 as Boston, MA (New England states) and others list Michigan. I haven't found my car's dealer yet but I know it was purchased in MA and it is a zone 01 car on my PHS documentation.
Ok , finally got my paperwork scanned, the dealer code (or FCO #) is 035-929. I tried a search but it wasnt there or im blind. Any idea where this dealer is? I also scanned my broadcast sheet, or whats left of it, but it is all readable. The car was sold through a dealer in Coquitlam BC in September 1967 named Trapp Motors. I have another number which looks like a dealer code 7-859 which may be the number for the Coquitlam dealer. Craig

Anybody know of a Zone 01 dealer 196 in Portland, Maine? It is not on the Ultimate GTO site or info/sites Scott or others have posted.
All the historical zones discussion got me interested in expanding the history info I have on my '68.
My '68 was originally leased for 15 months by a company with HQs in Minneapolis, MN. (I've owned it since 4/69.)
The car was ordered and leased to them by Huber Pontiac in Springfield, Illinois - Zone 12 dealer code 332.
It left manufacture in Lordstown, Ohio on 1/29/68 for delivery to a dealer (unknown) in Portland, Maine – Zone 01, dealer code 196. (I assume the company employee using the vehicle was based there.)
The registration and plates was done in Minnesota. I have the original Mn 68 plates and a copy of the registration.

I looked at the codes for mine and i have one that is not on there. mine is code 25 dealer 343. I know that the car was always local and I found out there was a dealership in vancouver washington called Mc Coy pontiac any ideas? I found another dealership in reno called winkel pontiac gmc for those in reno
Have you tried a title search with department of motor vehicles. Perhaps they have manufacturers statement of origin on file or original title information that may yield dealers name? Other than that I am not sure.
Try looking at the sites mentioned in the first few posts of the thread. You have probably already done though. Where do you live?

scott, I live in portland oregon, When i bought the firebird in the 90,s the seller siad its from vancover wash. that all I know. I found a licence plate cover with McCcoy pontiac on it. and another pair from reno with a pontiac dealership on them also. thanks for the advise.

I know I suffer from great shortsight, lack compassion, and a long list of other negs. So forgive me when I ask: exactly what contribution does dealer zone/number make in the never ending quest for knowledge?
Received my PHS documents and have my dealer code. This code wasn't on any other site I had looked at, nor in any of the posts. I hope it helps others ID their original dealer.

Amervo, I was able to use my dealer zone code to find the name of the dealer. Once I did that I picked up the phone and called directory assistance. I talked to the son (now owner) of the dealership owner and he remembered the car because it belonged to his friend (original owner) and gave me his phone number. He was the same person listed on the original title. That is how knowing the the zone code helped me.
