I have a set of 6X heads that I want to prep for rebuild. I have read about baking heads for removal of oil, sludge, carbon etc. Does anyone know how well the process removes buildup in the internal passages? I have a kiln and bead blaster and just need a temperature recommendation and length of time for baking.
We "cook" them at 400 for about 1/2 hour. The machine has an "open" flame, so a static oven WOULD take longer. We also have an "airless shot blaster" for removing the dried ash. Highly recommend against doing this "at home". Our system (EPA approved) has a built-in afterburner that eliminates the smoke from the burning oil product. Banshee's right. NASTY stuff.
There are no "internal passages" in a 6X head, except the water jacket.
