I'm wondering if my 'bird came with the Deluxe Wood Steering wheel, as I've seen lots in the Year One catalog (deluxe interiors w/wood steering wheel). Is it noted on the PHS docs?
They were called "Custom Sports Steering Wheels". PHS describes them as "Handsome 'just like wood' appearance. Has three equally spaced, brushed stainless steel spokes. Horn button in center." This was option code 471 on the 67's. Hope that helps.
Remember - the GM wheel was plastic that looked like wood.
I got the Grant "Classic" Pontiac wheel for a lot less than people want for the GM wheels.
And it's REAL wood. A very classy upgrade in my humble opinion

I got mine from Summit Racing - but most of the larger "performance" parts houses carry them. Get it from whoever is cheaper.
2 more suggestions: 1) Make sure you get the installation kit, also. The steering wheel itself just comes with the brushed aluminum horn button with the Pontiac logo. The install kit comes with the adapter cap for the end of the column and all the parts, wires, and contacts to make the horn work.
2) Steering wheels get a lot of wear from your hands, so I put 3 coats of satin Polyurethane spray varnish on the wood rim.

Salmon - Great info and thanks to you all. My stock original wheel has cracks that make me think its hanging on a thread. The horn connection hasn't worked in two years, so getting the guts of the contacts may cure this problem. I want some wood on this bird! Thanks to all for the info process.

Yep, I thought the real wood wheel matches quite nicely with the walnut grain center dash bezel.
