I have my convertible all stripped out and am having the floor replaced. I am going to put a new carpet in but only after I put in some soundproofing material. What is a good sound proofing material for the do it yourselfer? I have heard about Dynamat but don't know if it is any good.
Dynamat is good stuff. I used a product called second skin audio. Very similar to dynamat but cheaper. http://www.secondskinaudio.com/. Try this link for some more info.
One thing to keep in mind, is that 99.99% of the sound in a 'vert comes through the roof (either open or closed) When the top is up, most sound comes through the well and the trunk.
The wind and road can be loud enough that you don't hear any sound through the undercarriage. So money spent soundproofing the floor might be better used for other items on your car.
JMHO...
Makes more sense to me soundproofing a coupe.

I was just reading this post ,and thought, "why would anyone try to sound proof the floor of a vert?"...only if you drive a lot on gravel roads maybe...., even with top up, most noise will come from up abv or thru sides of the car...
Peel & Seal is the way to go. I've used both, DynaMat and Peel & Seal and can tell you first hand, Peel & Seal is about 1/5 of the cost, you get enough to do the entire floor of two cars. I POR15 my floor first, then Peel & Seal. Killer combo that knocks out the road noise, droning and heat. Comes in a box 36"x50' for less than $100! Can not go wrong!
I never installed any sound proofing on the floor of my vert but I think I will put some in the doors to help the rattles. The doors and the top creaking (when it's up) is where I get 99% of the unwanted sounds.

I researched the subject to death and also used secondskinaudio's damplifier pro. I don't regret it at all but I didn't find that that it was an amazing night and day difference. More of a small difference. My exhast had a terible drone so it was hard to tell. The one thing I wish I would have done is add some kind of heat insulation blanket. I still get the exhaust heat coming up thorugh the floor.
I tried to put it in the doors but it wouldn't stick.
I have done a little more research and have found Dynamat (very expensive), Fat Mat and Second Skin. Has anyone use any of these products? Any idea if members of 1st Gen Firebird get any discounts?
