so my trany has been leaking a a good amount. i have found that its the trany dipstick, im finding that it wont seat correctly and just keeps leaking. ive tried siliconing it but with the 2.5 inch exhaust its been hard to reach it. i purchased an aftermarket one from classicindustries.com and i think its for a camaro. its the wrong bend and doesnt fit. does anyone know where i can find an exact replica or know a good way to fix the problem. the car is a 350 with a 400 trany.

A th400 firebird transmission dipstick is a rare item. Dont even see them come up on epay. I've been looking for years for one but have had to settle on a flex setup for now. Good luck!

Did you check/replace the "O" ring on the tube where it enters the tranny?
Ames sells a TH400 dipstick with tube....Part no FR565RT $49.00
a universal dipstick w red handle and its different from original.
I also got screwed by Classic with that chebby dipstick tube and then went to PY to get the one that Bjorn is talking about above.
The bottom line is that this one will work, but it wants to hit the firewall when you are putting the motor in. So I bent it at the tab where it bolts to the tranny to engine block bolt and I am good to go.

I dont know....as I have the TH350 in mine...but I would think that if Ames sells it ,its fits right...they usually dont sell things that do not work...the specialize in Firebirds and GTOs.
Im using a lokar stainless set up. The one they sell in ames is not correct for firebird th400. Our dipsticks have about 4 bends in them. Here's a pic of one
dude you nailed it, thats the one, yeah i looked at the one on ames and its the same bends as the one i have that doesnt work, where can i get one like the one you have?
Sorry man... I dont even have one.. just a picture of one... still searching. Until then I'm using the lokar flexable tube and dipstik. It works, just isnt correct.
C'mon Doug! Fess up! I know you have a dozen of those lying around your garage!
