Title says it all. Most of us here have owned a Pontiac back in the day, the one that got us all hooked on the Pontiac brand. What was your first Pontiac?
Mine was a 74 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ 455, 4BBL, automatic floor shift (they were all autos). White vinyl top over White. She wasn't fast off the line, but man could she fly! I had a ton of fun in that car during my college years!! I recently found the bill of sale where I sold it for $595. I would like to have it back for that! I have been looking for a picture, but have not found one.
My first Pontiac, which is also my first car, is in my garage and has been mine for 42 years now. There are a lot of life's memories that include that car.
68 400 hardtop, auto, fast as hell. Dark green with black vinyl roof. Buddy hit a pick up truck one night to kill it. Found some pic of it the other day I'll have to scan and post them.
69 350 hardtop, auto,Red with white interior . My first car at 17,found on at the end of someone's laneway for sale paid $1000 cost me another $200 to safety.A lot of good memories with that car.
'68 firebird 350 auto. (bought in 1979) Next included a '68 firebird convert, 350-3 spd on the floor. Three different '77 Grand Prix's, '97 GP GTP, '98 GP GTP, '04 GP GTP, '08 GP GXP.
Wow, I didn't realize how many there had been. I must be OLD!
My dad had only ever owned Mercurys. But he never complained. I owned four FORDS along the way, and a couple dozen Monte Carlos and Cutlass Supremes, but never a Mecury.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. My dad was a Pontiac man. He had a new Catalina or Bonneville every two years for as long as I can remember. My sister' first car was a brand new 72 Ventura. My first car was a 75 Chevelle Malibu Classic. I alway wanted a Firebird as kid but when my time came to buy a car I couldn't afford a new TA so I went with the Chevy. It had a sbc 400 and swivel buckets so it was still fast and cool. Took me 35 years to get my bird. I must be old too!
'68 Firebird 350 auto, Blue coupe...bought off my dads used car lot in June 1969 ($3300!)..it still had 5 mo of warranty on it!....had to sell it within a year to pay for surgery....never owned any other Pontiac until my 69 , bought 10.5 yrs ago)
My 68 convertible that I bought in 2008... first pontiac I ever owned. I had a 68 firebird hotwheels in 68 and was my favorite car.. that's what had me hooked on the firebird... just took 40 years to aquire it.
1968 Firebird Convertible, 400 4spd,Red w/ White deluxe interior and it was my first car. Bought it in 1979 and sold it in 1985, Man I had a lot of fun in that car. I dream of the day that I run across it, although I am sure I never will.
My red 67 326 vert. Bought it unseen in 2007. Actually, when I picked it up from the harbour after importing it from California it was the first time I ever saw an FGF in real life, and I already owned it, LOL.

Don't mind Seth. I think he's got the gas mask on already for his upcoming surgery!

The first one I owned was a 75 bird with a 400 2bbl, no idea if it was originally that way or not, plywood floor boards, no trunk to speak of and bondo quarters that flapped in the wind above 35 mph...bought if for $300 bucks and sold it about a year later for $300 bucks, but it was a fun year!
76 six cylinder firebird. Had a 70 455 with NOS and turned into a formula, did 11 sec. Then a 77 TA, 2 77 Grand Prixs until my current 68 400HO numbers matching baby. I have owned too many cars to count. Some that I remember are 67 SS 396 4sp camaro, 65 mustang, 74 Nova, 3 Cutlass Supremes, 70 Dodge Dart, and my first car was a 66 Chevelle 4 door. AHH to be young again.
my first car was a 1964 olds f85 , i turned 18 i bought my first pontiac a 1969 was suppose to be a 350 car it had a 71 455 in it,turbo 400. it was verdoro green when i bought it had a cheap black paint job on it, then i painted it maroon . it had a black vinyl top , remote driver side mirror , black standard interior & pontiac hub caps.that was in 1978. i bought it for $1200.

In 1978 I purchased a 69 bird. Overhead cam 6, 3 speed. It was a rust box back then and leaked 2 qts. of oil a week. I paid $500 for it and loved that car.
At 16 I was driving a $40 1978 Olds Omega. I walk into my father’s shop one day just as he is on the phone with one of his good friends. His friend is telling my father that one of his coworkers has this GTO that says Judge on the side.
It broke a timing chain and it is just sitting. The apartment building that it is beached at wants it gone, so he is just going to cut it up. My Dad tells him that he does not need another project but might be interested in some of the parts. Then my father looks at me and asks me if I am interested in a 69 GTO Judge project? Well I said yes.
My father tells him to offer the guy $800 for everything. He figured it had to worth that in parts if it is junk. The guy accepts. I gave my dad’s friend the money that night and he took it to work. He gets the title to the car and the keys from the guy with instruction to where the car is.
Never did meet the owner or saw the car.
We went out that weekend with a trailer and find a black RA3 69 Judge. Complete original drivetrain nice interior. All RA pieces there. Still even had the exhaust resonators that only the automatic cars had on them.
My dad helped me fix it and I put over 25K miles on before parking it for the next 20 years.
I brought it home from storage last October. Body is off the frame currently and reassembly is starting next week.

The car isn't worth alot, it is in pieces for God's sake! Tell me where to pick it up and I'll come with the trailer and take it of your hands. I'll even throw you a couple bucks for being a member!

I know this a FGF board, but I am expecting to see some pics of this when its done!
Thanks everyone for the offers but I think I’ll keep the old girl around awhile. I feel actually guilty for letting her sit for so long.
I have to in a way thank my wife for pushing me to get it back on the road.
Another quick story: I was in the middle of restoring my 68 FB 2 years ago when my twins were born. Well everything from money to free time ceases to exist with newborn twins! End of summer last year things had calmed down to slowly start on the FB again.
My wife “informs” me that we have kids now, we will all be going to shows and she may have to drive it. Problem is that she would not be able to drive the 68 FB because it has manual steering, manual brakes, and 4sp.
Well I ask what in this world made you think you would drive it?? Then all went black! Once I woke up, saw the bent frying pan and got an ice pack from the freezer, I very nicely said, the 69 Judge is an auto with PS and PB.
So the FB got pushed aside and the GTO is getting worked on. It is great to have a supporting wife!

Just an addition to this thread – it would be interesting to hear how everyone came to own their first Pontiac and why? Impulse buy? Where you looking for that particular car?

I am trying to get at least the GTO done as fast as I can. Everyone with twins tells me double the terrible twos can be worse than the first year so we are just waiting to see what happens.
