Alright, I need to buy a set of headers for my 69, 400 car w/ 4-speed, no ac, ps, etc. I am not concerned so much with the appearance of the headers as much as I am with the performance and durability. That being said, is ceramic coating worth it in that respect?
They will last longer, and will help slightly with under hood temps (maybe not enough to notice?) I'd say in the long run... yes, it's worth it.
But, you can often times find a local shop that will save you some money over buying them done? Again, depends on the header you go with and or what you want to go with, and then the coating companies you can find locally and their prices...
The ceramic will also quiet the passenger compartment a little. I have a few race buddies who swear by powdercoating their headers. I honestly can't believe the powdercoat stands up to the heat, but they insist it does. Their headers look great.
Oh yeah, identical headers - one coated silver and one coated black - showed a consistent 3 hp gain when black powdercoat was used. Odd.
