Car went back yesterday to have the front alignment completed. Went back to the junkyard yesterday and found one Caprice. Lucky for me it had the aluminum rims like ours as I found that one of the rears was badly bent. So now it's two new tires on the front and replace the bent rim in the back and everything should be good to go!
While in the junkyard we found some speakers for the Caprice. Apparently the old people were a little rough with their German music as 3 of 4 speakers were blown. Found a pair of Xplods for the front doors. Things sell for $159/pair, got them from the junkyard for $16 pr. Then we found a pair of high end Pioneer 6x9 for the back deck, got them for $16 pr. as well. Installed them last night and wow, sound great.
So with a little work and not much money we have fixed and or replaced everything that was broken and or did not work in the Caprice.
When we get back from our trip up north to see our kids the car will get a dual exhaust and that should do it.
LOL yeah true. Kind of a crazy thread I guess. Speaking of which, I got the power seat unit back from the restoration guy yesterday. I have it mounted in the LeMans already and will finish the install today. It's pretty cool I must say. Pics to come...
Installed the ultra rare power seat in the LeMans today. Had the entire unit rebuilt by a guy in Tampa, FL. Works nice and just a really cool thing to have. Here are a few pics. I also have a set of screw on door edge guards, rear mounted power antenna and a tilt column on the way. Now I just have to mount all the switches under the dash overhang area (rear speaker, rear defroster & rear power antenna). She is coming along nicely...
I believe once I get the rear power antenna and tilt wheel in place, one of the only ones I can think of is the remote mirror and those they do repop and are quite nice. I will most likely add one at some point. Other than that, I can't really think of much else. I'm not big on the dealer add on stuff, I like the factory OEM options for the most part.
I did have an NOS set of opra lights but I sold them for 3x what I got them for because in order to use them I would have to of had a new headliner installed because of the existing dome light. My original headliner is 100% flawless so I wasn't about to change it.
I've been told that the plastic track covers and plastic motor cover under the seat are worth as much or more than the power seat itself. Those parts are almost ALWAYS missing even from high end concours restorations so I feel lucky to have them!
Here are a few updated pics of the tilt wheel install:
Absolutely LOVE the tilt wheel. Next up, install screw on door edge guards, switches for rear defroster & rear speaker.
I had the original AM radio converted to AM/FM/MP3 by Mike Hagen. It's on it's way to me now and I am looking forward to installing it as we already installed a single front speaker with dual voice coils and a single rear speaker with dual voice coils as well.
The radio should be here Weds. I had the conversion done so it will still look like it's only an AM radio. When you turn it off and back on again you get FM then again to get the MP3 input to work.
Trying to get as much done before we head off to POCI convention in Bowlingreen, KY first week in July.
Yeap, $399 plus $10 shipping. He had the radio about 3 weeks. Seems like a nice guy, spoke with him a couple of times. The guys gotta be making a killing doing those conversions. I'm guessing there is maybe a $100 in materials/parts. Then he has a 4-8 week back log!!!!
Joe, it was good seeing you Saturday. The car looked great and I love the vinyl top!
Great to see you as well. Next time we need to coordinate better so we can park together and have a few "sodas" as well!
Thanks for the compliment on the top, we are VERY happy with the results! The car was a hit before but now, holy cow, people go nuts over it with the white top!
Sunny and upper 70's here today. Summer finally made an appearance! I think we have snow forcasted for next week!

No rain —and none in sight — has local tree advocates concerned about the long-term effects of the drought on Houston’s tree inventory. Drought-weakened trees now means the city could potentially lose millions of trees later, setting in motion a long-reaching and long-lasting adverse environmental impact, said Trees For Houston.
recently we broke a heat record...100F for that date , but it really didnt feel bad at all, as we have the drought...not much humidity coming from the ground as it normally does...100F normally in Houston is "sweaty" weather...as its then 85- 90% humidity or more...recently it has felt like Arizona...
No matter how hot it gets, you never have to shovel it!
I'd take the scorching heat ANY day over cold a$$ miserable weather! The high in Buffalo today was 55*. Give me a break, no wonder why the people there are so friggen misserable!
Curious how he determined there were only 105 Sprint Lemans Conv w/ A/C. I have a Sprint FGF Conv w/ A/C. I know the numbers are low but don't know what the real numbers are.
He was given that number by Jim Mattison(s) from PHS. It may a guesstimate I am not sure. Jim says his may very well be the only one left in existence based on his experience etc.
