But, we have been busy with the 67 LeMans lately. Lot's of stuff going on with the car. Installed new carpet as the original was getting tired. Now, we are on to finally installing the parchment vinyl top and painting the rear filler panel, trunk lid and quarters. All of which still have their original paint, however, it is really wearing thin in several spots.
In addition I've rounded up the following OEM options: screw on door edge guards power seat power trunk release power rear mounted antenna trunk light rear window defroster R.A.R.E. 2-1/2" H.O. manifolds tilt wheel OEM clock (Quartz converted) NOS vacuum gauge mounted on console
new AAR AM/FM/MP3 stereo (had my original converted) so it looks 100% stock, installing the single front speaker with updated dual voice coil for stereo same with the rear single speaker with dual voice coil (should sound nice)
Installing KYB shocks front & rear. New Eaton posi unit w/3.55 gears. New ACI seat foam for the two bucket seats.
We also just installed all new inner/outter fuzzies, door seals, roof rail seals, trunk seal, quarter glass seals etc. Ordered a set of blue floor mats from Ames, VERY nice!
THEN, once all of the above is completed, in goes the mighty 400 stroked to a 461 (engine from the 68 Bird)! The car is really coming along now...
This is one nice thing about living in the deep south. Classic cars like this still exist. Yes, it's a 92 and basically a classic as it's 20 years old now. Hard to beleive.
We just bought, from the original owner, a 92 Caprice LTZ 5.7 TPI with 81k original miles for $3500! This couple bought the car brand new and now moved back home to Germany after living in the US since 92. This car is flawless in every way.
The old lady made a set of seat covers the day they bought the car. They were still on there when we brought the car home yesterday. The interior is incredible and they gave us a bag full of every piece of paperwork from the entire time they owned the car. LOL
Oh yeah, we have been removing the typical old people AAA stickers from this car. Get this, one on the rear window, side window, on the dash (buckle up AAA). Then, you must have a Texas flag sticker (grand kid went to school in TX), an American flag sticker in the back window (give them credit for that as it sure beats all the latino's that come here and put Purto Rico flags in their cars) and there is still one AAA bumper sticker that just doesn't want to come off!
Someone please explain to me what it is with old people and stickers. I swear this car looks as if my Grandmother (God reast her soul) had owned this car with all the AAA stickers. Told my wife we are now the offical typcial old Grandparents from FL now. We bought the car so we can go visit our older two kids and grandson in Buffalo, NY. LOL
One good thing, this old couple did not hit anything with this car. It has 100% original paint and has never been touched up anywhere. We put the car on the lift, underside is PERFECT!
Windows get tinted tomorrow. Had to do something to sport it up just a bit!
Great find! Should get you through quite a few more years.

Thanks guys. Yes I remember the Pacer. LOL The fish bowl!
Wife is taking the Caprice now to get the windows tinted, should look a bit sportier I would think! Nice to have a car with a/c as the past two years we have not had it in our van or the LeMans. I think we are in for a HOT summer!!!
Thanks Larry. I know 92 a classic! Man, I really had to think about that when I called GEICO and the kid on the phone is like, WOW MAN that is an OLD CAR! LOL
Made me re-think about putting it on regular ins. Going to call Hagerty and see if I can put it on that policy with the LeMans. Probably be about $70 for the year vs. $500...
Can anyone remember what the Pontiac version of the Caprice was??

Wow that is nice Vikki. We loved our Bird but I gotta say this bigger "A"-body is really nice for cruising around in. Especially as much as we drive our car (daily). Big trunk is really nice too!
Aside from the two pieces of trim, front upper passenger's side and rear upper passenger's side, getting dinged up all went fairly well.
From what I could tell, the back seat had never been out of the car. The trunk divider is toast as it sagged in the middle and kinda like melted into a distorted form. Also removed the original package tray as the backing kept falling apart and making a mess in the trunk.
Glass guy is coming at 9am to set the rear glass and install the trim. Then, give the car a quick wash down and clean up. Then my order should arrive around noon and I can install the new package tray, rear dual voice coil speaker w/new grill and the rear window defroster. Then pop in the rear seat and bingo, good to go to the Friday night cruise-in!
Then on Sunday we will install the new front & rear KYB shocks! Monday the bucket seats go to the ulpholstery guy and get the new foam installed. She is coming together now...
My painter friend did a great job painting the filler panel between the rear window and trunk lid. Matched the paint dead on and the clear coat hasn't even been sanded and it looks great!
Beautiful! Makes me want to sell my 'birds and buy one of those!
Well, maybe not. But maybe...

Glass guy showed up on time, cleand the glass, primed the edge, set the glass, installed the trim & cleaned everything up all for $65! Gave the guy an extra $12 and you would have thought I gsave him a $100. Super nice guy who works for himself. One man operation and everyone in town knows him and trusts him.
Sure is nice to run into such nice people these days. My friend Mike who owns several classic Pontiacs and Corvettes has been using this guy for over 20 years. Quality work and fair prices what more can one ask for?
always loved that body style...66 ,67 GTOs/Tempests....as I grew up we had a family friend who had a 67 GTO, silver w black, got to ride in it a few times, loved it
Went to the Dixie Chapter car show today in Jacksonville, FL and took frist place in the GTO/LeMans class. Had a great time, and a nice handful of FGF as well. I did get some pics, will post them soon...
Thanks Gus. We are quite happy and proud of the ole girl.
We are going to the POCI show this July in KY. Anyone from this site going as well? Would love to meet up with anyone from this site if they are going...
Joe it's looking sweet! That is my next project car when the shed is done! Woke up. Sun is smoking down. Car show nearby. Time to wake up the mistress!
Very nice car EarlyBird.. The work you put in it shows.. I tried to deal on a real nice 68 350 Tempest here on Friday, but the guy wouldn't sell. Nice blue paint with white interior and top. It was a vert and he just got it done.. man oh man was it nice...
Cant wait for summer... 68HO4004spvert Sleddog Iowa
God Bless the men and women past and present that have served this country. Thank you. Support D.A.V. - it helps gives a life back to those who gave so much for us.....
Have been VERY busy working on the LeMans. Past two days we installed a new mesh package tray w/jute, single-dual voice coil front and rear speakers, rear speaker grill, rear window defroster, trunk divider w/jute. Also had ACI foam installed in both front bucket seats WOW what a difference. Installed a new set of 3 temp control cables as the originals all had broken ends and the levers were not operating the flappers as they should.
Up next is screw on door edge guards, power seat (waiting for it to come back from restoration), AM radio was sent out for AM/FM/MP3 conversion. Also installing a rear power antenna (an original OEM unit). Then I have to install all the switches for the rear defroster, rear speaker and rear power antenna. On the "A"-bodies they have switches that mount under the overhang of the dash pad. I have them, just need to get them all installed.
I also have a set of 4 KYB shocks to install. Painting them gray to give them a stock look. Hoping to have most all of this done within the next week or so...
Hope to see the 400 in by the next NSB cruise. You have a week, get goin!
Waiting until after the POCI convention, everything else will be done before the convention except the posi & 461. I figure if we are going to drive the car a couple of thousand miles we might as well get 20mpg with the 326...
A few more pics of the Caprice with the windows tinted, tail lights blacked out & headlight covers. Had new ball joints & tie rods ends installed, frontend alignment she is good to go!
Kinda funny. For the first time in my entire life we could have gone out and bought a brand new car. What do we do? Buy a 20 year old Chevy simply because it looks cool and the a/c worked! LOL Honest truth. We have been driving the LeMans, the Bird before that and our 1996 Chevy G20 conversion van around for the past two years all with no a/c!
We went out and looked at some new stuff or just a year or two old and we just thought why do that when we can buy something inexpensive that will do the job and leave us a little comfort zone for the first time in years.
Kinda nice to be able to breath a little for the first time in over two years. We are thankful first and foremost to God above for seeing us through some pretty rough times. Amazing how when the chips are down things can turn around unexpectedly. Second, thank God again for a wonderful loving family. Third, thank God yet again for putting this hobby and the wonderful people such as yourselves in my life.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This hobby and the people associated with it have saved me and kept me moving forward and for that I thank each of you who have played a role in that. Sounds mushy etc. but it's true!
Did some more recycling. Went to the junkyard and found the correct Delco CD player for the Caprice. In fact, we found the upgraded version of the factory CD player with the built in EQ. Pulled it from a loaded 96 Grand Prix and got it for $22!
Brought it home, pulled the dash apart installed the CD player unit and bingo, she works like a charm! The wife is thrilled as this is all she wanted for Mother's Day was a CD/radio for her new old daily driver. Radio looks really nice in the dash as it is a stock unit and fits perfectly!
Now you just need a nice set of Rally II's and some redlines on there!
I'm really glad everything is working out for you guys! Congrats!
