More updates. Stripped the doors down on one of the coldest days of the year. It was sure fun sandblasting while it was snowing out. The drivers dorr was near perfect. The passenger side door had some previous work along with a little rust. I cut and welded in a new patch and welded up all of the old dent puller holes. Door came out pretty solid. Both doors all stripped down and repaired.
Next on the list was to repair my steering column. The turn signal switch was cracked in a few spots and the lower bearing was missing about half of it's bearings. I have a good friend who started his own powder coating business so I dropped off a load of parts including my whole steering column in pieces. New turn signal switch. I removed one wire and the light bulb socket for a column shift steering column. Picture of the new lower 69 bearing in the stock 68 holder. Parts back from the powder coater. All put back together.
Looks like you cleaned your garage and made some more room.

Next on the list was to put the doors back together. I started with the door latches. I had them soaking in mineral spirits for about a week. They still came out real dirty but made it a lot easier to clean up. After a couple of hours of cleaning. The passenger side door did not always open correctly. So after cleaning the latches all up I noticed a spring missing. I figured there was no way that I could buy this spring all be it's self so I made one from a throttle return spring. The spring on the left is the one that I made. Of course I had to look later in the day and you can buy the spring from Classic for under $5.00.
I started to put the window brackets all back in when I noticed that the drivers side regulator was in pretty sorry shape. The regulator itself was fine but the front bracket that holds the window in place was shot. The hole was oblonged, was missing spring washers and was grinding away on the frame bracket. So I moved onto the hinges. The bushings were shot along with the detents being frozen in place. I found it odd that some of the bushings were made out of plastic. The hinges look to be original as the original pinch was on the lower portion of the pins. Heres whats left of the pins, bushings, and detents. I test fitted everything to make sure it all works correctly. next I will sandblast and prime the brackets.
I would have loved to see more on how you took the steering column apart to get the switch out. The manual shows a special tool that pulls the top off.
I will get a picture of the tool and the hub. I still don't have that back on the steering column yet. As i think it will be specific to what steering wheel I use.
For a minute there I thought you said something about a picture of a tool in the hot tub!

If the hub is the housing around the turn signal switch it is the same for all wheels. At least is was for me when I went from the standard wheel to the wood wheel. The only difference was I didn't use the spring under the wheel and I had to get the correct cancle cam.
More progress. Hinges sandblasted and in primer. Gas tank painted 2006 Pontiac silver and straps powder coated gloss black. I had some issues mounting a oil filter on my car. I have long branch manifolds and the spacer for the oil filter. What I did not know is that the oil filter housing that I had was for a big body car. The one painted Pontiac blue is the incorrect one. Here is the part number for the correct one.
Cleaned up the parking brake assembly. Before Picture. Completed. Steering column, brake pedal and gas pedal all powder coated satin black and installed. New Taylor wires and Lokar throttle cable and bracket. All made in the USA. New power steering hose and master cylinder. New fan and belts.
Nice shot of my rearend. My kids trying to take it for a spin. I had no idea that they were in there. I was cleaning the garage when I heard them having way to much fun. I walked out there and they told me they were in a Hot Wheels race.

Finally decided on gauges. These were made to fit in the stock bezel. The gauges also have the turn signals, high beam, engine light, and brake light built into them. They also have LED lights in them. These are made by New Vintage. All electrical sending units including the speedometer. Sending unit for speedo.
when do I get to meet this 'good freind'? I need a good friend like that too!

The tailight housing is metal. That's how the bulb sockets ground to them.

Great job Robert as always...what do the gauges look like in the stock instruments piece?
The tail housing is a alum metal I think.
Thanks for the compliments. The tail light housings are made out of pot metal. Sorry, I could not get the flash to turn off. So, these are the best pictures that I could take of the gauges in the stock bezel. I still need to paint the bezel and then get the gauges perfectly straight.
pot metal..?, maybe thats why they tend to not ground right at times...I replaced my sockets to metal (from a Ford) and grounded ea separately ,hard wired to body....they dont fall out and ground well....
true...Pontiac, Ford, Buick,Chrysler and Volvo...(my "Viagra" inner hood springs!)...a real international car...I`m sure I have something else in there somewhere too...In my old Studebaker I couldnt find hinge pins for the sagging doors...found out that pins from the hinges in Volvos 740 station wagon third seat fit PERFECT!
