Nice try, but it won't fit. It comes close. The bend for the leg, that mounts to the intake manifold flange is in the wrong location. This makes it to short. So back it goes. I'll post if I have any problems returning it.
There are two '68 intakes. Both use different brackets. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinfo in this area. The newer style has an arm with a square hole for a TH350 kickdown cable and is also used in '69, and has a different height leg where the intake bolt holds it down.

Yes, my 'original '96 bracket has the TH350 provision. So, the leg that mounts to the back manifold bolt does have some differences. They're selling this bracket misinformed about the year of application then. Still no resolve in sending it back yet.
I did get my money back. But it was like pullin' teeth. Guess he had enough of Terry and me, so he caved in. It may be correct for GTO or B body. He seemed to think that all V-8 got them.
The reason he stated for the different length leg, was that the rear intake manifold bolt should be a stud/post. And that does make sense. But all the '69's I've seen use a bolt, not a stud in that location.
Have bought parts for thousands of $$ from Ames, YearOne, CI and Rick´s First Generation over the last 10 years, noticing a dramatic decline in quality over the years. Except for Classic Industries who is producing (mostly subpar) new parts through OER every other partsupplier - YearOne, Ames, Performance Years - reduced their stock for FirstGenFirebirds over these years (often in favor for the SecondGenCars).
Then I noticed ThePartsPlace. For a few years now they´ve been the only one to produce new quality repro parts for FirstGenFirebirds -- all other vendors cut their stock for these cars (our cars are 40+, getting rare so less profit for the partsuppliers because of less interest and smaller quanities that have been sold) or they sell the same (often wrong - see CI) parts over and over for years with no new products.
Of course, also at ThePartsPlace all that glitters is not gold... Nevertheless, at least they try to keep up the quality: they are producing the best repro hood tach available (Ames is selling their´s, too. Ames even doesn´t erase ThePartsPlace´s name on their boxes) and the only correct chromed 400 aircleaner lid. They are the only ones to sell (and produce) the correct 5-blade flex fan or the correct looking wiper pump with white head. The PartsPlace is the only manufacturer producing the correct high and low note horns with DELCO stamping... They are producing the 68 park lamp housings every other partsupplier is selling now...
I´m aware that ThePartsPlace is a problem for Terry and FirebirdBill because they are re-producing even the smaller parts no other partsupplier cares for but which are so essentiell for the true restorer. It´s a safe bet that Classic Industries is selling more fenders than Terry every will do. But Terry or FirebirdBill surely are selling more small and rare parts because Classic Industries simply doesn´t offer them.
ThePartsPlace is trying to get this business, too, bursting into Terry´s and Bill´s niche and that hurts... They re-produce these small parts that are so difficult to get your hands on like emergency cable retainer clips and parking brake switch paddle clips (I learned it the hard way how difficult it is to find these parts -- FirebirdBill helped me out with used parts but these used parts won´t multiply...). The PartsPlace also is re-producing the correct GM air cleaner vacuum diaphragm and bracket with correct stamping.
Now - if I´m in search for a rare part - it´s first ThePartsPlace where I´m looking for, then guys like Terry or Bill who both have a large stock of used parts in good condition.
In my opinion ThePartsPlace is real gain for our hobbyhorse - all the more that Rick´s First Gen now is owned by Ecklers and showed a horrific loss in quality and service - though at the cost of smaller partsuppliers like Terry or Bill
My 0.2 cents...
BTW - you don´t need to order from ThePartsPlace through ebay, you can log in on their website and make a tour through their "new parts"-section (best type in 67 resp. 68 or 69 Firebird) from time to time to see what´s new: http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/newproducts.asp?curpage=1
I haven't had too many many problems with MOST of their parts. However that being said, It really IRKS me that I have to pay for return shipping to send them back DEFECTIVE parts! Every other company I've delt with will pay for return shipping on defective items. (And if you're unhappy, they won't return your calls or e-mails and they don't want to tell you their name when you call.)

Not only return shipping, I was not refunded the amount for the shipping. I'll spend my money elsewhere from now on.
I got screwed a few years ago returning a supposed nice part to the parts place. Like the other person, I had to pay for my return shipping for defective (POOR) merchandise. I'm not in the business, just trying to restore my own car.
Last night I bid on several 4-speed conversion parts from this place. Then I remembered all the issues people on this site had with them, I did a search on Ebay and found a way to cancel all of my bids for each part. Looks like I'll be looking elsewhere...
I deal with Rob at Tamraz He may be hard to get ahold of at times, but thats usually because he is being patient with the customer before you. I never had a single problem. I have returned things no problem. Lucky for me I live close so no need for shipping. He always goes above and beyond for me. Prices are very fair and Rob may as well be the shell answer man.
Not mention there are guys on E-Bay that sell repro parts as originals. They even attach counterfeit AC-Delco parts labels to the boxes. Lots of guys on another site said they've been taken for hundreds of dollars buying what they thought was an NOS piece, only to receive a counterfeit cheap Taiwanese part. What's amazing is that some of these guys keep getting away with it. They change their ID's every few months when the negative feedback starts to pile up, and they always have "private bidders", which prevents people from e-mailing a bidder to tell them the part they just bid $1000 on was a cheap Taiwanese $49 part.
But for every 20 items these guys sell, 19 of the buyers don't know what the original part is supposed to look like, and they don't know the differences between the repro and the NOS version, so they give positive feedback. Whenever negative feedback strangles their credibility, they just change to another ID, and start all over again.
Meanwhile, they raked in $20,000 for about $400 worth of Taiwanese parts.
Have had 2 issues with there parts being junk , no luck talking to them , had to file paypal claims . If you are going to make a part why not make it correct ? Seems like they do not care , let the customer make it work !
Just wanted to add my recent experience with The Parts Place.
I ordered the kickdown bracket and switch for the 68 Firebird.
I will say that the bracket fit like a glove. Though I do not think that they actually produce it as I have seen the bracket sold at other places. I went with The Parts Place because they sold it with a switch that while not correct, was advertised to work.
I installed the switch and took the car for a test drive. Turns out that the switch they sell you is a normally closed switch, so just idling or driving normal the trans was getting notification to downshift and change the shift points. I hooked a volt meter up and viola, sure enough, unless you pushed the plunger current was going through. (BTW - Thanks agin to those of you who responded to my other post assuring me I was not crazy)
I called The parts Place to ask about what I was experiencing. They are about one hour north of where I am, so I figured if I had a defective switch I could just run up and exchange it. My experience on the phone with them was terrible.
First they accused me of having it connected backwards. When I described to them how the switch should work I assured him that I tried swapping the connections and was able to verify the same behavior.
I was told I could bring it in and that they would look at it. He told me he has a box of these switches and he thinks htey should work fine. I asked if he would mind connecting one to a power source and testing it with a volt meter before I drove one hour there only to find out that all the switches act the same. I was told that he was busy. He had customers that he had to help. Well wait, just because I already paid, does that mean I am NOT a customer? He was quite rude on the phone and told me to just come in and they will take a look at it.
I did some research on the switch itself. While I do not know for sure who manufactures the switch that they gave me, I did find two duplicate switches out there. I called each manufacturer and they verified that the switch is normally closed and that I needed a normally open switch. One place which had great customer service on the phone was Painless Wiring. He spent quite some time looking at the other switches that they have and recommended a different switch that they sell. Both the switch I called on and the one that he recommended sold for around $10.
I sat down adn did some math. Just in pure gas alone, driving to The Parts Place and back would cost me around 2 hours of my time and around $9.00 in gas. Add to that the furstration of dealing with them, I decided to just buy the switch that was recommended to me.
Long story short, as mentioned in this chain all The parts Place cares about is getting your money. There is NO concept of customer service what so ever. I will never deal with them again.
Thanks for posting. I was eyeing some other items listed by them on Epay, but I'll just look elsewhere. Every time they have a chance to do the right thing, they follow the scent of new money instead of old...

I have been looking at the PP replacement hood tach and have seen older posts about their tach (mainly positive). i have been looking because mine is a 6500 redline (?), seems to be calibrated for a 6, and I liked their glass face and backlit pointer.
Has anyone bought one recently? Is this still the one AMES is selling?
I think I was the first person to get their F-4 bracket they sell.
I called up complaining too that the back of the bracket didn't go down to the intake like the original.
I called and they were at least nice enough to go look at a car they had and told me it needed a studed bolt to work. I had one but I didn't use the bracket. I didn't like that it wasn't tapped for throttle clamp bolt either.
My brother ordered a few things from them like a back spoler for a GTO and it didn't fit right. I agree with the poster above if your going to all the work to repo a part is it that hard to get it right?
Right - stay away from them they are known as the biggest crooks out there. I experienced it myself with the trunk splatter paint they sell. The paint was frozen or old and I got the finger when asking them to replace. The have a F rating with the BBB!!!!! The guy that ownes the place by the name of Joe is known to be an unreasonable SOB!!!
I had some problems with them as well. They were the first place I found that had the correct proportioning valve for my 68. they had to send me 3 valves before I got one that worked correctly. Plus, the brake fluid leaks destroyed my freshly painted firewall along with other newly replaced painted parts.

This is the same place that had a quantity of "10" fold down rear seat bezels listed on Ebay. I hit the "buy it now" button, paid right then and there via PayPal.
Then, I instantly get an E-mail from them telling me they are "out of stock, on back ordered until they can find the time to make more". That is EXACTLY what they told me. I went ballistic as their own Ebay listing had "10" available under the quantity.
Then, they didn't/wouldn't give me a refund because they said I would "eventually" get the product etc. Terry (RIP) then got involved and ended up sending me one that he ordered from them as he had a few in stock (wish I had known before hand, my fault for not asking him). I ended up getting my money only because I used my head and quickly went into my PayPal account and cancelled the payment/transaction.
This was several years ago now. However, never again since...
