I've heard that a trunk from a 1967 Camaro can be used on a 67 Firebird, but I've found nowhere that can verify this claim. Has anyone tried this before and if so, are there any special serial #s of any type that label it as a "Firebird" trunk lid?
Trunk lid will physically fit, but the lower edge of metal will not be cut away where the PONTIAC lettering goes. '69 will also fit, but also does not have the allowance for the letters. If you glue or caulk the letters in place, they will work.
Or if (God forbid) you are planning on adding a rear 'Maro spoiler, then the lettering holes won't matter anyhow.
Also, generally the 'Maro lids will have two small holes for the 'Maro emblem on the right side. Those holes would need to be welded up.
'67 and '68 fgf trunk lids are punched different on the underside, but physiaclly interchange.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I'll be replacing the trunk lid, and keeping it straight pontiac...no spoiler! But with the lower edge, would that prevent me from drilling the holes for the Pontiac letters? Also I have a 400 in my car, so would I be able to use the two holes on the right side for the 400 emblem or are they in the wrong place?
The 'Maro holes are higher and further apart, so no they won't work. Yes, you can still drill the holes, the metal will just be too thick for the acorn nuts. You may be able to use shorter nuts or glue them on like I mentioned earlier. Gus, I think he just means he has a 400 engine in his car, not a 400 lid. Boy, maybe I should auction my rust free lid for $2000.00 or something. I didn't know how hard they were getting to find.
