I need a left hand (driver's side) axle shaft for my '69 10-bolt non-posi rear. If you have one, let me know. Or if you have a good lead on one let me know. Ames gets $189 plus freight. I found this one at Parts Bin:
As far as I know, I need the stock shaft. 30" length and 28 spline. Let me know if you have one. Also, if you have any tips, warnings or advice for me, please share. Thanks.
Doug, I listed it s LH in case there is a difference between the axles. I'm nowhere close to being an expert. If they are the same, that will make the search easier. I'll pick up my axles from the machinist today and get back with you on the exact length. I've been doing some searching online, and found that "30-inches" seems to be a generic reference, not an exact measurement. Some are 29-1/2", 29-5/8" and 29-13/16". Best way for me to get the correct axle is to measure my failed one (bearing spun on the shaft).
Remember that these axles are held in by retainers and that there may be an excess of length on the splined end. What i'm saying is that as long as there is enough spline into the differential 1/4" may not matter either way. If it is to long and both ends of the axle are touching they can be trimmed.
Thanks for the advice Bigchief. The axle I have coming is about 1/4" longer than the failed one. We'll test fit it and see how things look. Sorry for the late reply. I've been hard at work on my '69 and just got back to the PC since yesterday.
