Thought I'd start a new thread for this topic. Would be nice to get some pics of cars from the side that have had new leaf springs installed and how the height of the rear end came out. Post the PN and specs(4,5 leaf std/HD)of the springs installed too. Maybe include what size tires/rims too so you can tell what takes up the wheel opening and why. I'd like to buy some new springs one of these days and it would be good to know, as close as possile, how it's going to come out after.
I suppose you are NOT talking about us strange '67 owners who put new monoleafs on.

Basically the whole rear suspension is different. Mono springs, non-staggered shocks, factory under-axle traction bars (more properly - control arms)

If you've installed new springs in your bird post a pic of the ride height and a description of which one. It would be nice to have some sort of a database to work with.
here is a picture of my 69 convertible. has 5 leaf springs (standard),15 inch cragar ss wheels with 245/60`s on back and 265/70`s on front. has a real nice stance.
Here's new 5 leaf w/ 2" added arch. 255-60 on the back, 225 on the front. 15x7 Cragars [/IMG]

Bronze Bird's car sits just like my '67 with mono's did after new springs. But I ordered the 'stock' height.
It came down perhaps an inch in the last three years.

it the tires they are smaller i stuck something around the house so i won't ruin the new ones. the car height is original. it has new bushings an stock springs.
Going out to look at a 69 today that someone is parting off CL. Looks like they have the original 4 leaf springs still attached to the housing. Not sure whether it's worth buying used springs so I'm not willing to pay much for them.
Tim, the b&w pic above is actually of my own 69 Bird, not an original pic.
I do have dozens of factory original pics of various 69 Birds and 69 Trans Am's, but they're always on bias-ply tires. Since most of us have white lettered radials, what I did was make my color pic b&w to look like an original to show the stance.
Lowering the back end is fairly easy. Depending on how much you want to lower it, the easiest way is using lowering blocks, available at most auto parts stores (Murray's is the cheapest). The lowering blocks include longer u-bolts (although they're usually way too long, and you will probably want to hack some of the threads off), and you can install them in an hour or two. Once you paint them black (they're natural aluminum), hardly anyone will know they're there.
Brian, I think all the 4 leaf springs were the HD set. They were supposed to be the 126lb springs. I think you could get 126lb springs in 5 leaf too but I'm not sure why they offered both. I was under the car today(ALL DAY!!!) and mine are 4 leafs going forward of the spring plates and 3 going back. I think the same ones you have.
