To any one interested; I found this very helpful. Pay special note to the poss that you may have to clear away cast burrs in order to reach release tab.
huh ? you dont need to take out the ignition switch like that , it will come out with a paperclip if you have the key, lol do you have to replace the whole turnsignal switch or just the auto off cam?
Also, most of the time, the faliues in the directional switch is broken spring(s). If so, the teardown stops after your remove the plate that is held down by that hokeyass snap ring.
You may have to push pretty had on the pin in the hole with stiff paper clip. but just trun ignition to "off" insert paper clip into hole press hard and rotate ingition past off. it will slide right out. as for punching or breaking anything to remove the rest of the assemby, i didnt have to break anything, period. Now if you dont have the key , drill out ignition lock assembly carfull and make sure not to ruin the housing. i used to replace these alot back in the day.
i just did mine , just like i stated .broke nothing. 67 and 68 are on the dash. 69 is column , once i did that i did have to disassemble the whole column to replace all the bearings. i'll pop mine out tomorrow . im sure it will come out just as i said. never had an issue.
I'm going out in the shop right now to see if I can put the original cylinder from my column shift column into my floor shift unit. When you say "turn the cylinder past off" is that toward start or ACC?
OK, things aren't always as simple as they sound. First neither one of the cylinders I have, have the hole for the paper clip method. I disassembled the old column and found the slot to release the retainer clip, broke through the flash-over, but cannot seem to find the release clip. I can see into the back of the housing and can't see any kind of clip. I can see the rod coming out of the cylinder that turns the gear that pushes the rod to activate the switch. What an I missing?
I think there is a couple slots ,seems to me it wasn't the slot that had flash over,But one next to it.It has been a few years since i had mine out,try a search it has been covered before.
