I have a 69 Firebird with the TH350. I put on the Edelbrock manifold and the 1406 carb. I also followed the directions to modify the throttle cable mount. I need some help with a couple things.
1 What do you use to connect the throttle to the carb? My old two barrel did not have a removable connector.
2 How do you mount the kickdown? Nothing in the DVD or directions from Edelbrock.
3 Pictures would really help. If you PM me I can give you my number to text me if that is easier.
4 Best place to buy new cables. My kickdown may be missing the end. Links to the part number would help. I have found so many different types I am afraid I would get one that doesn't work for me. Most of the ones I have found are for Quad Jets not Edelbrock.
Thanks a lot, I am getting frustrated with this rebuild.
you can get a the bracket at Ames or Classic it may not be exact but it's close. this is one place. Can try summit racing, they have a lokar setup for cables and brackets. As far as the throttle they supply a post with the carb, it should mount on it, if my memory serves me correct.
I installed the parts and it seems like it is going to work great. I bought the Lokar kickdown cable and bracket combo from Summits. The bracket is for a Camaro and I had to bend it here and there to get it to fit but here is what I came up with. I used a 1' spacer on the back hole of the bracket and now it sits flush with the other side of the kickdown bracket.
One question. On this setup with the large spring on the back of the Kickdown, when it is adjusted to full out will the spring be compressed? Otherwise, it seems that you could adjust it lighter than that. Hard to test it without the car running.
Doesn't the 69's have the kickdown installed on the throttle bracket, are you talking about the adjustment of the kickdown itself? Check this site out: thefirstgensite.com go to libary and they have a manual for 67,68,69 firebirds on line and you can view it there
Yeah, normally. But I put on an Edelbrock 7156 manifold and an Edelbrock 1406 4bl carb. When you do this you have to adapt the throttle bracket to fit and then add an additional bracket for the kickdown.
I never did find any pics of this install anywhere on the net. Anyway, I still have me original manifold and two barrel setup in case I ever want it. But this will provide a little more fun while cruising.
They do make a bracket that bolts right to the carb flange, it's chrome and adjustable and you can use it for the springs too. I use it because I have a detent cable and 67 had electric kickdown switches and a rod for the throttle, I removed the Powerglide and installed a TH350 and had an Edelbrock 1405 carb. on top of it.

off2 it looks like your kickdown cable will move right away at any throttle. You don't want it to move until getting closer to wide open throttle. If you have any upshifting issues, re adjust this linkage so it starts to pull on the cable a little before wide open throttle as seen in my pic. (I know what a mess huh?? [censored] P.O. I've since cleaned it all up).
68ragtop I notice you have a TQ on top. how's she run with it on top instead of a Q-jet?
That's why I was refering him to the 1stgensite, it'll teach him how to adjust it properly, my 67 had an electric and when I went to a TH350 it used a cable, but I converted it in 1994 and the OEM cable was still available then.
She runs great with the carter thermoquod. It is the 9800S that even Jim Hand mentions in his book. It's the one thing that the p.o. Got right. Throttle response is instant and she chirps the tires instantly even with the stock 2.56 rear end. Most people call these thermo bogs and I found the same thing until I figured out the rear air door needed the spring tightened up ,,,,,lots. It bogs because it goes lean for a second when you stomp it. Tighten the air door spring (on the secondaries) and it slows that big rush of air, doesn't go lean, but now launches great. The 9800S is a 800 Cfm carb and the 455 loves it.
I have never had a quadra jet on this car, but have had a few in the past. They work very well too when adjusted/tuned properly.
Nice clean up on the engine, Stock manifolds and TH350? I like the pic of the new top being installed, I see you used wood to keep the spacing, top looks good.
