Went up for the day last Sat. Got up early and made the 200 mi run because all the reports said it was HOT up there(104*). Anyway made the trip fine and parked the car in the shade. After a couple of hours came back and she wouldn't start. Would roll over but not fire. Getting tons of gas. Thought it might be a stuck float so I pulled the carb an pulled the top off. All looked good. Started pulling plugs. Even after cranking they were dry(timing chain broke?). Pulled a VC, nope all valves opening. Checked spark-very little. HEI w/50K volt in-cap coil. That thing ought to crack when it fires. Stopped right there and went to Summit. Bought cap/coil/rotor kit and a new set of wires. Got everything installed as it was getting dark. Installed the last couple of wires by feel. Fired right up. My buddy had his coil crap out the very next day. Different issue-same result. Pretty much the only pics I have of the trip are the ones my wife took of me working on the car in the parking garage. Got up and drove home the next day. Oh well, there's always next year.
Sorry to hear that! Doesn't make you want to jump right on the next trip, does it?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. No, not really. 100* on the way home with no AC. About 6hrs w/stops. 13 MPG and ear plugs most of the way. The worst part is we try to get all the Firebirds that are at the show to gather at the A&W that afternoon and I didn't drive mine last year. That was the only reason I did this year and it was broken down across town. Very frustrating. At least I got it fixed in time to drive home. Otherwise it would've turned into a major ordeal and would've cost alot more to get it home. Yup, it's a great hobby. Sometimes more fun than others though.
I wish!!! How are you doing Ern? Everything going well I hope. We're in the process of planning to come up your way next Aug. I didn't have time enough to spit on the sidewalk in Reno. Maybe next year.
All is well here Robert, have been workinng my tail off the last couple years so not much time for the computer but still cruising quite a bit. Missed the Duncan show yesterday (sorry no t-shirt for you) due to work. Please keep in touch if you get up here next year. We were halibut/salmon fishing on the west side of the island the other week, whales everywhere around the boat, Kim would've liked it.
HA! Kim wants to know where the pics are? We will definitely keep you in the loop when the plans firm up. Probably fly in and out of Sydney. Her and her girlfriend go out of Half Moon Bay everytime they hear about someone spotting some transient Orca but they haven't been lucky enough to catch them yet.
I'm not an environmentalist fisherman Robert I take beer in the boat not a camera. We had the radio on the whale tour frequency, there was a small pod of orcas slamming some seals at a reef not far from us.
