How many of us have actually ran our cars on dynamometer to find our power and torque at the rear wheels? What approx. octane are you running? Is it on pump gas etc? If so what sort of numbers have been achieved?

As part of my 455 engine build, my builder broke my motor in on his in-house dyno.

Peak HP: 488.9 @ 5100 RPM
Peak TQ: 574.2 ft-lbs @ 3700 RPM

So, 1) No, I do not have the rear wheel numbers. 2) We figured that my TQ peak is actually below 3700 but the SuperFlow machine did not measure below that level. 3) This was on 93 Octane gas which was one of my build requirements.

An in-house dyno was on my list when I was shopping for a builder, but I wasn't too sure I would find somebody in town with one. This particular builder constructed the majority of the engines that were constantly winning on the local circle track, so the shop dyno was a must for him.

Those are some good numbers salmon. Did the builder happen to mention if all else is stock, what average % loss though the drive line may be expected?

Kel, what did your results come in at? I think you did a dyno in one of your videos...

Had my 400(budget build) on a chassis dyno in 2006. Came in at 300HP/360ft lbs.

When we did the dyno, the u-joint broke on the 2nd pull, turning loose the drive shaft at around 6ooo rpm, luckily I had a loop to minimize the damage. We didn't get any readings. The guy doing the dyno said he thought it was around 500 hp, just by his experience. Had the car on the track, went 111 @ 12.5. On that run, had some wheel spin and have since upgraded the Holley carb from a 750 vac sec to a Holley 800 DP, feel confident I will be low 12's next trip.

Did a chassis dyno last year.
374 hp 412 tq to the rear wheels at 5,100. Stock looking build (HR set-up), not-stroked, ported #13 heads, 400 .040 over. Quadrajet, LBM's, 2 1/2" exhaust. Th400
91 Octane

Cheap second hand cast pistons, recon'd rods. Did all the work(except for the machining) and tune myself.

Tell your wife I would've been money ahead buying decent parts because I eventually had to do just that when I rebuilt it again. Save yourself some trouble and money and do it right the first time. Actually the rods are holding together so far but the cast pistons went south.

I saw your videos and have to again you have alot of engine there. I am still shaking my heard with the crazy torque that Samlon is getting. I shudder to think what that would feel like in a car. Lots of torque there.

I think anything around the 3 mark can provide some good driving experiences. Anything else is all gravy (but good gravy)!

There were several visitors during my break-in including another customer with a Pontiac 400 he was having built at the shop. The shop employees asked me if I had lined up a tire sponsor yet.

I plan to take it easy until I get subframe connectors installed at least.
