My 68 has always had an ill fitting front clip. I plan to address this over the winter time. My doors are pretty well set, but my big question is how the hood and bumper are supposed to mate. Is the hood supposed to be "over" the actual chrome bumper at the nose (meaning if you were looking straight down from the hood, would it go past the rear edge of the bumper) or does it end on the upper reinforcment panel? Also, what is a typical gap between the bumper and the fenders where the fillers are?
![[Linked Image from imageshack.us]](http://imageshack.us/a/img845/5189/turd2.png) I know that washing and waxing my car with the present condtion of my paint is like polishing a turd.....but it's my turd and I want it polished!

Hood does not go past rear edge of bumper. Gap between fender and bumper is about 3/4", or slightly smaller. 5/8" is too small.
I can send you some pictures if you like.

Would like to see as well. Detail on how the front bumper/grill and rubber surround all fit together would be great too.
One other issue I am having is the rear of my hood is sitting UP to high with the new cowl seal. Without thew seal, it seems to fit fine. Any suggestions? All fenders to door panels, etc all fit great.

Cowl seal may drop a bit as it ages and compresses. Or you may need to try another brand. Not all weatherstripping manufacturers have the correct fit. Especially trunk seals. Ill email you the picts I sent too.

Yes, those are the deluxe seats I have for sale on craigslist. Way too nice to re-cover, so I thought I'd sell them. They are almost as nice as the originals in my 'vert. I'll re-send the correct pict!

Thanks Craig & Mark for the photos...very helpful! Mark, it looks like you have been wearing your sandles out in the sun too often and have "sandle tan" on your feet! Dave

A lot of the rebuilds out there omit the filler panel so the bumper always appears closer to the fenders. Some stock photos I have seen show the bumper taper away from the center out to around the 5/8-3/4 in front of fenders. I would like to see pics as well.

I know this thread is 6 years old. But I have been trying to figure out why my front bumper looked like crap. I had it way to close on the driver side and do not have the bumper fillers. THANK YOU for still having the pictures available. You have no idea how happy I am right now.

I love working on cars when they are mine. I've had muscle cars all my life. 72 Lemans, 67 Chevelle SS 396, 76 Trans Am, and now 68 Firebird

I think I have an extra set of original bumper fillers if you need them too.
