My workshop situation has improved to the point where I can begin working on my 68. Stripping out the carpeting, I realize I need a full floor replacement, but I'm noticing a few disturbing signs that lead me to believe this car was in an accident. Does the floor normally have such an arc to it? Notice the crease in the middle of the tunnel and the wrinkles in the back. Finally, the front, which is more in the firewall than the floor: I am trying to measure the body mount holes to see if the entire car is tweaked, but I do not have it up on jackstands yet. Visually, the panels and doors all seem to fit fine, but this car has been restored before. Any thoughts concerning accident damage and difficulties installing a new floor?
I had a 68 vert with exact same wrinkle in it, I thought the same thing, but seeing yours it's kinda ironic to have 2 the same. With bends like that the rockers would be bent also and mine were straight. Is that wrinkle near the seat belt holes? I actually tried to lift it with those 2 holes

That all looks normal to me. Stamping wrinkles. Your new floor will have many of the same wrinkles.
You sure you need full floor replacement? From the portions shown in your pics, your floors look pretty darn good...but your pics don't show the usual heavy rust spots.
If you just have a few holes in the foot areas, you may want to seriously consider patch panels instead of full replacement. Butt weld the patches for concourse/invisible repair, or flange edges and lap weld if you're just building a driver. Heckuva lot easier IMO, and less worry about hurting the structure, less need for bracing, etc. A repro floor is never quite as good as the original...
Well, that is a great relief to hear about stamping wrinkles. My worst fears are avoided.
The floor pictures do look deceiving. Here is the real damage: It used to be a column shift, and as you can see the Hulk punched a shifter hole and patched it with fiberglass and roofing tin. You can see the passenger side has been patched twice. The toe boards on both sides are shot. The rear pans have holes rubbed through them by the emergency brake cable as well as the usual pin holes. My thoughts were that a complete floor would be quicker and cleaner than buying all the patch panels, but I just took a second look at pricing, it looks like two full length halves would cover all my damaged areas for about half the price of a full floor, and the trans tunnel is simple enough to make my own patch. You can see my entire album here, and I will be uploading more pictures as I document the tear down. http://s71.beta.photobucket.com/user/amichalson/library/Firebird
Replacing the whole floor in a vert is very time consuming and is much more work than a Coupe because of all the added support braces. I am doing a 69 vert right now. If you don't need to replace the whole floor, I wouldn't.
From the pics, it looks like you need new firewall and torque boxes. The torque box welds to the firewall and extends up to the upper frame mounting locations. There is also a brace that welds to that corner that looks like it's missing or completely rotted thru.
Got my full pan in now, not a bad job to do at all replaced a toe board also. I thought about the half pans even bought one but I'm glad I did the full pan, rust was starting in pinch welds where I couldn't see it, I should get another 40 years out of it

Lower roll pan, use the camaro section it's cheaper All this was my first time with no help from anybody, so don't let it intimidate you it's only metal and welds back

Bought a new set of 69 front fenders to cut up and weld sections onto my originals due to fitment issues, that will be in the next few weeks starting on a smoothed out firewall next, Hope you have as much fun as I am

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I will be doing many of the repairs you have done. I looked for the torque box you mentioned, and all of it minus the rearmost 4 inches of flat metal are still there and coated, so I might be able to fabricate instead of purchase. Despite that, I can't seem to find the piece in any of the usual catalogs (Ames, NPD, PY, CI). Does it go by another name? The only supplier I can find with that name is Tamraz's, but I imagine multiple suppliers would carry what seems to be a rather important part.

I am also in need of this for my coupe. If you stumble across something, please let me know. I have a dealer for Goodmark and Dynacorn looking into it, but haven't heard anything back yet.

68tpls400, I found some other links that may be of help. "Front body mount" and "firewall body mount" are other names the elusive piece goes by: http://www.drclassic.com/catalog/Camaro/Body/A00874.html http://www.autobodyspecialt.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=0061 Camarocentral also is showing up in my searches, but I can't access the site to verify. It seems that the normal catalogs do not carry them for some reason. I would be happy for somebody to prove me wrong on this. Does anybody know of any other sources or names?
I ended up ordering one from a Dynamark dealer along with all my other sheet metal.
Everything is supposed to show up next week. But of course I will be out in Cali for two weeks.
