My housing leaked from overtightening throughout the years of use so I went to the locak NAPA store and purchased a new one from them. It is cast steel not potmetal so it won't warp but does not look quite the same as a oe housing. Enjoying miles of no coolant leaks now!

Mine was warped as well. I put it in the vise and used a flat steel file and filed it flat again and always use FormaGasket to seal it up and no leaks!

I have the original and will now install. Any helpful hints to prevent it from leaking again? Rubber or paper gasket, type of seal to use, etc. Thanks!

I have always used the paper ones with RTV. Make sure both surfaces are very clean. I use gasket remover (be careful it will remove paint) to get it very clean. Never had one leak.
I have had nothing but heartache with T-stat housings, heater hose post clamps and fuel line flare fittings. Always seems to be a little drip. (Like an enlarged prostrate).
Tighten... re-tighten use Permatex #2 Form-A-Gasket
Thick paper is fine and no gasket sealer is necessary. Clean both the housing and intake surfaces very well and run your finger along them to feel for rough spots that need further cleaning. I always just clean them with a gasket scraper, but a flat head screwdriver can also be used.
