I have an opportunity to get a folding back seat with all of the hardware. I have two questions, will it fit in a 67 vert with deluxe interior? And what was the purpose of having it. Was it for access to the trunk? Does it replace the panel that is currently behind the existing seat? What makes it rare? What are the benefits? Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the pix. The panel behind the seat on yours ... Is that standard or custom? On mine there is holes in the metal panel for access to the vert motor! Thanks, Mike

There apparently were some on convertibles. As mentioned i believe their use was for as stated above about carrying extra cargo due to the limited trunk space. The panel behind is for estetic purposes. The nice thing i like about the fold down seat in a convertible is if you want a killer sound system and fit a pile of speakers in there for when the roof is dropped! If you can get a good deal on it,i would grab it.If you end up deciding not to use it in your car, you should fetch a good $ for it on ebay.

I think they are interchangeble on birds. camaro's i believe needed to have the deluxe interior option or be a convertible due to the standard interior on a camaro not having rear armrests, thus being a wider rear seat on a camaro standard interior.

The fold-down makes for a clean cargo hold compared to my trunk. It actually lays flat and sort-of locks into position. Last time I used it was to transport the Vintage Air kit to my brother's for install. I've been considering the options for allowing extra bass through via folding down the seat. But I'm thinking about a ported box to pipe through the existing defroster hole instead.
Fold down seat was an option in '67. I took one out of a coupe and installed it in my convertible. It worked fine except the top of the back seat was higher the the top of the top well. You will not get access to the trunk by having one. Interesting option..I used it once..just to say "look a fold down seat." '67 and '68 seat latches are different..'67 has clips that hold the seat up...'68 uses a latch. I ended up installing the original back and cutting holes in the steel plate. I put a ported box w/12" fosgates in the trunk, 4x6's with repro grills in the kick panels. Lots of base got through..even with the top down.
I'm sorry to say that most of the fold down parts now belong to other board members. The seat frame and metal back are the hard parts to find...the others (hinges, clips, and hinge brackets) are all reproduced. I look in the shed, but I think the fold back and frame went with the bird when I sold it.
