Does anyone have a picture of what the 68 traction bars looked like. Ride and handeling package code 62 - 1 on billing sheet. My traction bars do not look like the 67's that I've seen pictures of. Mine are round bars.
I verified the rearend is the original so I was thinking the traction bars wold be the ones that came on it.
68's did not come with traction bars. Any bars you have on there would have been aftermarket.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. A bit of background - with the mono springs and both shocks on the same side of the axle, both Chebby and Pontiac found both cars had a LOT of wheel hop with high HP. Both companies put factory traction bars on the cars - "I" beam style for Firbirds and round style for Camaros
The change for the '68 model year to multi-leaf springs and staggered shocks negated the need for factory traction bars so none were installed.

My bars are going from the axle forward to the front of the rear spring I think "out of memory".
That description smacks of aftermarket (like Lakewood bars). The factory bars had mounting plates welded on the bottom of the axle tube partway between the springs and the center pumpkin and bolted to the inside of the frame rail and studs coming through the rear floor pans via welded in floor reinforcement plates.

As you can see, their "2nd design" looks a lot like the Firebird's "I" beam. The brackets look exactly the same.

Cool thanks. So mine is either every early design?, or someone removed the brkt/brkts and painted over. Need to ck closer and look for code. Maybe someone look'n for it.
The only rear housings that came with trac bar brackets are the 67. They are also recognizeable by the two ears sticking out on the top of the center section. These were only used for GTO applications but they used the same rears for both in 67.
Question: Did they ever use track bars for the GTOs since they were already set up for them?
RW is talking about his 12 bolt rear out of a '67 Camaro.

Ah. Yeah, I thought we were talking about Pontiac stuff. Just trying to give the OP more info on figuring out what he has. He may have a maro rear as well. Can't tell without pics.
I checked out the bar and here is what I have. It attaches to the mutileaf spring at the axle and extends forward and then connects to the bracket of the front of the leaf spring.
The bar wiggles and is loose and the end over the axle.
Is it doing anything good for the car? Should I just remove it or leave it?
Homemade, but a lot of thought and effort went into it!

Some old hot rodder owned that car. Somebody's attempt at controlling wheel hop. I doubt it does much good. Nice try though. Take it off. Just one more loose thing to rattle.
Doubtful, if so I would hear more concerning my log-in name. BTW, if you ever want to see what the 67 traction bars look like (or at least one of them)in person, my 67 sits up on a lift.
