I have a 69 bird, and from what I can tell is carousel red. but I am not sure, I have contacted the previous owner in an attempt to see if he was the one who had it sprayed. can anyone send their 69 birds in either color? from what I can see in the picture thats "just red", not matador (darker red) or carousel (orange), but pictures can be misleading sometimes on color...but my suspicion is that its neither and has been repainted...'re sale red' , like mine...which is PPGs "red"
My paint was mixed to the original formula and looks correct (see sig pic) but there are so many things that can change it. Sun/shade, time of day (as the sun goes down it gets more red than orange) lighting (most gas station lights seem to suck all the red out of it and it turns pure orange, almost Orbit Orange).
I agree with Bjorn though, the car in question appears to be "re-sale red"
What does the trim tag say ? Carousel Red was actually a special order color in '69 and I'm not sure how many buyers shelled out the extra $12.50 for it. For some reason the same color on a '69 non-judge GTO was around $100.00 extra.
my previous owner has not gotten back to me, and my car is definitely not carousel. the car's original (factory) color is vedoro green. I ordered a rear spoiler for the car, and the body shop wants a paint code to match it. its definitely closer to matador, but it could very well be a 're-sell red' thanks guys!
can you take some part of thats painted ,bring to the shop so they can mix it? I`ve done that before...they should be able to use one of those "guns" that Home depot uses to give them correct mix...when I got touch up for my old green Triumph ,which nobody knew what color it had I brought them the rod that holds the hood open , they mixed perfectly a small touch up for me...could not see color difference where I touched up.
I just got back from Harriman Auto Color. I brought them the car and they used some special camera to get a pic of the paint, and then they inputed that into their computer, and it said is was "Velocity Red", a common color for mazda, Kawasaki and a few other makes. they printed the whole paint code and mix code, and faxed it to my body man. i'm planning on getting a copy of the info and putting it into my file. thanks for all the help everyone
