How should the flex fan have been painted on a 68 Firebird?

Should the center (1) and top strip (2) be black? What color is 3? Is 4 left natural and polished?

Hope this helps. Pics of a NOS 69-72 Firebird clutch fan blade. Part no. 3991431

These are not flex blades. I don't think you would want to paint the flexible blade but the rest would be black.

This car looks pretty good and appears to have the stock colors:

The blades...the entire blade remains natural. The remainder of the metal, not including the fasteners are black. Pretty sure its a semi gloss black. I'll check and get back.

Is that a stock fan? Looks almost like the flex fan I had on my car for years with SS blades.

I had the same question. I would have expected a 7-blade clutch fan.

I thought so but not for sure. Someone swapped the motor some time ago. Date code is correct for the car. I've read about the 5 blade flex fan and I thought it was standard with the HO option. I read something about it in my PHS docs but do not have them with me to quote.

It has the SS blades that I am going to polish out after getting it powder coated.

Here is where Classic is showing a reproduction. http://www.classicindustries.com/firebird/parts/f91346.html

I didn't think the birds came with a flex fan from the factory...thought it was only the 4 blade and then the clutch type???

There were a crapload of fan combinations for these early birds (more than really made any sense). Vikki saved me from throwing away a stock 7 blade flex model for my Sprint because I also originally thought the same thing.

Nice picture of the stock heat riser mounting over LBM's there too.

Thanks Brian!

Awesome! Thanks so much Gus68. I guess I better not throw this one out. Pics even show the correct color.

I remember someone on this site about six or seven years back trying to tell me the one on my 400 'vert was not original. Looks identical to the one in Gus's pictures.
