I can see photos will be hard to do that color justice! There is a lot of yellow and green undertones in the color that pops out in real life, but doesn't show up in the photos at all.

Agreed it's difficult to get the real color and quality of a paint job through a pic. Color in last pic looks great though.

We already have the cowl in epoxy and chassis black, so I guess I will just leave it. It can't be seen behind the fenders anyway.
Not quite how I would have done it, but at this point I just want it painted.

Looking really good. Can you provide any information on the the paint or codes you are using.

We are using a PPG and had it mixed to the 68 Aegena Blue color. Don't know the exact codes.

My body guy was dealing with Dupont over a month to track down the codes. They ended up (somehow) running it through their computer that has like 13 million paint codes and somehow matched it to a 1979 Toyota Corolla color or some odd thing like that. (I was only half listening) but the color matched the inside of the deck lid perfectly. The decklid was the only part of the car that still had the original paint on. But with the new way paints are made with the metallic colors in the back rather than the front, the color just leaps off the metal. Its hard to describe, but the various greens and yellows really pop. I can get more information if you would like.

Do the GM Pontiac paint code documentation have anything that the paint supplier can use in which to develop the correct paint color?

I have a bunch of doc but not sure what to look for.

I took this doc http://thefirstgensite.com/library/paintchips/1968-pontiac-pg01.jpg to the paint shop but they could not make the paint by it. They had to locate an old PPG book to make the paint.

I had all those documents too. But for some unknown reason, Dupont said those were not useful. I will try to get further info regarding the problems and report back.

I found this on Team Camaro. This is probably what you paint supplier needs. I registered at the DuPont site and hopefully I can find the info for you and other colors if need be.
I used DuPont paint when I painted cars back in high school.
The boys at Acklands prepared the paint as I waited back in the 80's.

Here are the Dupont Formulas: (5030K Lemans Blue, 5033K Dover White)

We can mix 10-15,000 colours. the problem is that the paint systems that were used in the 70's, 80's and 90's have all been discontinued. The paint manafacturers only match up the new colours when they bring out their new systems and then go back just a few years. the only thing we can do is to either take a colout shot of a paint sample with a colour camera or if the original code has a sikkens colourmap position we might be able to match it up from there. So save any colour documentation that you have, cross references to other colours etc. to make our job easier.

I've got some excellent old paint chips from an original sales album. I could take it in and get the color shot from these samples then. Who does that?

Looking good. If I may offer a piece of advice. You may want to use masking paper next to where you are painting and use the plastic behind the paper. During the course of painting if the paint dries enough it will blow off the plastic right into the next pass you are applying. Don't ask how I know this.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago. I have seen it used today and I have a hunch that the plastic wrap is special for painting and that it does not allow the paint to flake off.

Good old 3M has it: http://3mcollision.com/3m-overspray-protective-sheeting-masker-06780.html

I have had the bad fortune to learn that lesson the hard way. Even when using masking paper you should unmask and redo any time the paint sets up. Like overnight.

Here's a couple of shots heading over to mate her numbers matching engine! Wish the sun would shine around here. I'm wondering what Aegena looks like in full sun.
