Had a set on my '70 Mustang fastback with stock manifolds and a cross over.
If you like the sound of a Flowmaster 40 series - you would like it. I would lean toward too loud with headers.
MAKE SURE the exhaust exits at least behind the rear axle or you will be sorry.

They don't claim they've been disturbing the peace forever for nothing. If they are as loud as 14" flowmaster 40s then yes they are too loud. When I bought my car it had the 40s with dumps welded right on the back of the muffler, made my ears ring.
my OHC has a cherry bomb (not sure the vintage)with a stock manifold (exhaust std location) and its not too load. I would agree on the exhaust being behind the rear axle.
My current stock exhaust tailpipes terminate 9" before the end of the chrome bumper. I think this is the way they all come from the factory. And let me tell you, my car still smells of exhaust. Is that normal for a convertible?
I was just going to swap out the current mufflers for glasspacks and keep the rest of the current exhaust system including the tailpipes. I may add extensions to have it exit closer to the bumper.

Factory had chrome splitters dumping downward just in front of rear bumper.

Thanks topless! Mine has two rusty old pipes that exit further back but I think a little closer to the center. No crossover. I will try to take pics tonight to see what I can do.
Whatever you do, don't use the 'Maro look (straight out the back)
That drives me crazy seeing it on our 'birds!

Sorry 68tpls400, I did the "maro look" on my exhaust when I put the new system in. It keeps the lower quarter area much cleaner than before. I never understood why Pontiac dumped the exhaust out where they did, although I do like the look of correct splitters. Incorrect tale-pipes don't look nearly as bad a 'Maro spoiler. (just my opinion)
I had to turn mine kinda horizontal. Every time I fired it up and shut down the car was covered in dust with the tips turned down. I live on an island that has no sweeper trucks, lot of dust and dirt. Don't really notice them unless you look for it.

Anyone have pics of the "Camaro look" and the Camaro spoiler? I am about to put a spoiler on. I may be going over to the dark side!

I have the 'fake' splitter...just chrome split pipe weled on to tip...bought from Pypes...less money than the 'real thing'....look is the same, until you raise the car
Does anyone remember/know the sizes of the pipes leading into and out of the muffler? I am thinking of the glasspack that has 2" inflow and outflow? My tailpipe measures 2" OD. I forgot how the whole ID and OD think works. I know the smaller pipe goes into a larger pipe as you go to the rear. But if the inflow and outflow are both 2", then how will I be able to get the outflow pipe to fit into the last section of the tailpipe if it is also 2"?
The AMA specs page of FGF states that my 350 should have 2.25" pipes in the main and 2" in the branch. WHere is the main and where is the branch?
I think the biggest OEM exhaust pipes were 1 7/8".
Standard was 1 3/4" I believe. Even R/A cars had 1 7/8". Anything bigger than that would have been aftermarket.

I have never seen that link before. But all the research I have done over the past six years indicate the diameters I show above.
I know stock exhaust splitters are for 1 7/8" pipe connections.
I also know anything larger than 1 7/8" pipes will not fit through the stock convertible cross brace under the car. (for a coupe, you don't need to worry about that)
Others, feel free to chime in, but I weathered the storm through my last three exhaust systems and this is what I found.

As for Camaro spoiler look...2 pics already on this page. Bluebirds in Blue, and Bjorn's in red. I could put up a pic of mine I suppose in white if we wanted to make an American flag....
But that's what Camaro spoiler looks like. I have one on mine too...and I like it.
I'm amused by some who find Camaro to be the enemy. It's the same dang car! Just a different powertrain. Must be jealousy since the Chevy turned out to be worth more $$$ and are also cheaper/easier to mod & build engine-wise.
I was shopping for a Camaro when I found my Firebird. I only bought it because it was cheap...and now that I'm sorta engine shopping, my wallet sorta wishes it was a Chebby....
And I believe my wallet will wish the same if/when I ever decide to sell it LOL...
I also know anything larger than 1 7/8" pipes will not fit through the stock convertible cross brace under the car.
Disagree. I have a pair of 2.5" put thru mine. Stock brace is in place. No big problem for local exhaust shop. It's TIGHT, but nothing touches or bumps anything thru there.
Hard to take pics with car on ground, but you get the idea. First is the front of the brace where shop put in a 2.5" crossover pipe as the pipes bend inward to enter the brace. 2nd photo I kinda missed the shot, but it's the pipes exiting the brace at the rear.
$267.50 parts/labor/tax included out the door. Included crossover, basic single unfinished turn-down behind each quarter in the usual F-bird exit location, and a pair of Thrush mufflers (cheap Flowmaster knockoffs). They just fabbed it all up on the fly by eye-balling it outta their straight 2.5" stock.
Shop is called Mufflers and More, Noblesville, IN. I highly recommend them for budget, functional, decent quality exhaust systems and/or other mechanical repairs. Concourse work it is not. But they provide what I call the rare combo of "cheap and good."
Didn't even have to get my hands dirty for that little project...sat in a waiting room for about 2 hours. Since I couldn't even buy the parts for the installed price I figured I had nothing to lose...
I chased rattles on my '67 'vert for two summers before I got the pipes rotated "just right". I must have gotten luck on the '68's, because I had no rattles from day one on those.

I agree with Crazecars, it's like a slowmaro with a chrome beak and a better engine. Trouble is it cost more for the engine and one gets less for it when sold. Power In number I suppose
