The 535-253 was the correct fan spacer for the flex fan at least with the 400 engine. Not sure if they used anything different for the other engines. You can buy a repo at inline tube for $25.
Bought this last month, and fit and looks were good!

The spacer should be whatever size that will put the fan blades 50% in and 50% out of the fan shroud.
Sorry to hijack this thread. Is this correct placement for all fan types? I believe that my fan is the original, I have no spacer and the leading edge of the fan (edge toward front of car) is even with the opening of the fan shroud (it's not recessed at all into the the shroud). I haven't had any cooling issues, but perhaps positioning the fan 50% into the shroud will provide better cooling?
50% was the stock location for '67-'68. I would assume the same for '69, but maybe others can chime in.
Do you have the original engine and pulleys?

The water pump/fan pulley is not original (actually it is totally wrong…should be a 2 groove, but is only a 1 groove and I will be ordering the correct one shortly…I have PS w/no air and my water pump looks to be the original 11 bolt, longer snout version).
