I am replacing my 1968 Firebird OHC 6 Sprint engine sometime in the coming months. I have no desire to keep the engine and wish to sell it. It is original to my car. It is a running engine. It has an estimated 165K miles. Though it runs and has decent power, it is in need of a rebuild. I drive the car every day or so.
Everything I remove will be included in the sale. Pretty much everything from the transmission forward. If it's not being used on my new engine I don't need or want it. For now I'm planning on reusing the Saginaw 3-speed transmission. Plans call for a 4-speed swap. The 3-speed may or may not be included.
I am posting this to gauge interest as well as help interested buyers plan ahead. I WILL NOT part out anything. It's all or nothing. The buyer will need to pick up the engine. I can not ship it. I just don't have the means to do so. Price is undetermined. Projected availability is September/October 2014. The engine is located in the Philadelphia area.
I'd be interested but need to know what all is included? Does it have a complete PS system or is it Manual? AC or not? Doubt I can pick it up, too far to drive, but I could arrange a pick up.
Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.
I don't have time for a job, I just need the money.
ho428, Power steering? Yes and no. My car is manual steering. Except for the steering box and pitman arm, I bought the accessory package off a Tempest; PS pump, alternator with double groove pulley, double groove fan pulley, all the brackets, bolts, belts and PS lines. I bought everything to have it, not necessarily to reuse everything. I haven't installed any of this, but this would be included.
My car does not have AC.
I'm putting in a SBC so I'm replacing everything; engine frame mounts, clutch linkage, bellhousing, flywheel, etc. This will be a complete package. If I get my 4-speed in time, it'll include the 3-speed and shifter too. If one wants to put this into another Firebird, there won't be much you'll have to buy elsewhere.
The OHC 6 is plenty for me, but I can't rebuild it and accessorize it with multiple choices from multiple sources like I can a SBC. Twenty years from now when I hand this car down to my sons, this problem will only be worse. I prefer the Chevy mechanicals, but the Firebird is far better looking. I'll have the best of both worlds.
Undetermined at this time. I'll pin this down after I pull the engine. It'll be one price for everything. I hope to include the transmission. My SBC engine was delivered today. The swap is a mid to late summer project.
I posted under Rants just to let people know and generate some interest. For someone wanting a Sprint OHC 6, this package will be an excellent starting point.
