My 67 had two styles of upper control arm shafts. The top one has GM and part numbers on it, but it is very hard to read. Anyone know what one is factory for my car? Anyone know what the other shaft is off of? If I dont know the answer, is it still a trivia question? Someone educate me, I'm curious..

This summer I replaced the upper control arm bushings on my wife's very early 67 326 HO Firebird. I'm very familiar with early F-bodies as we have many of them here at home and I must say it was the first time I saw those. I'm 100% sure they are original to the car as the bushings definitely were the original ones. They are exactly like the "square" ones, the upper in the picture.
Wonder of this is going to be a early/late 67 production change, just like the metal or rubber front bumper fillers. For the 67 guys that posted, what's your build date? I believe my 67 is early. I think mine might be built in may, but I'll double check. My 67 got whacked at some point in its life. It's original 400 and had non 400 hood, bumper and grille on it when I bought it. I also found both metal and what was left of rubber bumper fillers. I believe the metal bumper fillers are original to my car and the rubber fillers came when some one swapped a non 400 front sheet metal.

Sorry didn't finish my thought.. I think the front sheet metal on my car is late 67 because of the rubber fillers. Now I'm thinking maybe a control arm off the same "late" 67 bird was used for my car. If the damage was bad enough.. And I'm thinking that's how I ended up with different control arm shafts..

My June built 67 has the lower style. Bought in 79? with 42k miles, had been sitting 4-5 yrs, and nothing replaced except alt, carb, etc. Both my 68's had/have lower style. Are the lengths the same? Upper looks from an earlier model like a Nova, or?...
From the info given- 400 only cars only got the rounded arm and others got the square arm?
Anyone with OHC or non 400 have square control arm shafts?
Region Warrior- is your 67/68 all 400 cars?
