I just bought a nice 69 Firebird 400. The biggest issue for me is that some previous owner hacked out the radio opening and cracked the plastic bezel that covers most of the dash in front of the driver. I want to replace it but don't see how other than some obvious screws. Can anyone help especially with removing the H/L switch etc. Do I need to drop the steering column. Thanks in advance. Doug
Hi, and welcome to the forum. The headlight switch has a button on the side of it, you reach under the dash, find the button and push it in while pulling out on the knob. the knob should come out with the shaft attached. Then you can remove the retaining nut. Pull the electrical connector off the back of the cigarette lighter and unscrew the back side of the housing while holding the front side. My bezel has two nuts on the back side that hold the edge next to the glove compartment. Mine also required the heater controls to be disconnected from the heater. This is easiest done with the glove compartment removed. With the obvious stuff removed its only two more nuts to drop the steering column for some added clearance. Push rearward on the ring around the speedo cable and pull the cable out of the gauge cluster. I only referenced mine for the nuts on the back side because the previous owner did extensive repairs to mine and most not very good. Good Luck. Neill
