Well, we got another busy weekend of racing goin on. There is a national event and several div races, including some div bracket finals. The 1st day of the div 2 race got rained out.
You can click on this next link and scroll down to page 11, for some more details of Stock Elim, at the div 7 race. And it's a double header--more action today !
The 2nd race of the div 7 doubleheader starts today. There are several Pontiac powered cars entered. Leo Glasbrenner will have his 1st gen in action, again.
OK, the div 7 race is a double header. The final eliminations of race 2 are today. They had qualifying rounds for this race yesterday. And, I'm happy to report that a Pontiac powered car is #1 on both the Stock and SS final qualifying list !
#1 on the Stock list is the C/SA '68 Bird, driven by Leo Glasbrenner. Hey, 1st gen Bird power rules, right ?
Well, there were not any more big Pontiac winners on Sunday. But Brad Burton did make it down to the final 6 cars, in Stock. The guy he ran made his best pass of the day, cutting a .009 light and running his dial-in. It's hard to beat a run like that.
Well, there was not much to report last week. Peter Biondo made it to the 2nd round of SS at the national event, by way of his opponents redlight.
This weekend, there are at least 3 Pontiacs in action, in the Dutch Classic, at Maple Grove. Todd Hoven and Adam Strang have their '68 Birds running good, in Stock. Todd qualified #41 and Adam #66, in a 116 car field.
And, it looks like Victor Santos is qualified #1, in his 3rd gen Pontiac powered GT Super Stocker. He dropped off into the 9 second zone with a 9.997, which is 1.203 sec under his index. That's an awesome performance by a 400 Pontiac..
There's also at least 5 Pontiac Stockers at the Indy Fall Classic. Haven't seen the Super Stock list yet.
And, Vic Santos took his #1 qualified 3rd gen Super Stock Bird, all the way to the final round, by winning 6 rounds. But, there he left just a hair too quick and tripped the red. But he needed a great light, since his opponent cut a perfect .000 light.
J.B. Clegg had his '74 SD455 Bird in the Super Stock action. He turned in a 9.82 ET, but left a tad early, to trip the redeye. This car is said to be the old H-O Racing Specialties record holder. And I think this may have been the quickest ET ever, by a Pontiac powered (non-GT class) Super Stock Pontiac.
There are two 1st gen Stockers, at the div 2 race, in Georgia. Bryan Philips is driving a '67, and Kevin MacNicol is driving a '69. Tommy Pettigrew has the highest qualified Pontiac, @ #2, with his '77 Bird.
Good luck to all the Pontiac powered racers this weekend !
Well shucks . Randi Lyn lost the 3rd round, when her opponent cut a .011 light. So, I reckin all the Pontiacs are out of the Texas race.
At the div 2 race, Tommy Pettigrew made it to the semi-final round. But that's as far as any of the Pontiac got over the weekend. But, Tommy had also qualified in the #3 position. So, he had a pretty good race.
I'm workin on a 1st gen Nostalgia bracket project. It has the little birdies on the door glass. I began to wonder exactly which models had the birdies. So, when I did a little Googling, I came up with these 2 links.
Can you post your times when you run? Always good to see these birds on the track!

Sure. But I don't think it'll hit the track 'til next year, unless I get a major sponsor, QUICK. All cash donations gladly accepted !
It won't be very fast. It only has a pump gas 455 with 6x heads. Probably has a little over 400hp and 500ft lbs of torque. Our local track runs 1/8 mile. I'll be running in the footbrake bracket class--no trans brake or delay box. It should run mid to low 7's. This would be aprox high 11's in the 1/4 mile.
This is sort of a nostalgia bracket car. It is meant to be similar to the last two 1st gens which my wife(TJ) raced back in the '70's & '80's. it's a low budget car, just like the others were. But, if this one is half the fun the others were, it'll be great. Don't have to win races like we did back then. Just makin a few passes will be fun to me.
The last "Born Again" was a '67. TJ ran a best of 11.82 with it. The first one was a '68. She won lots of races with that car.
Well ya'll, I got some great Pontiac racin news. Scott Burton has just won the National Event in Vegas, with his B/SA 1970 Ram Air IV powered Formula !
This weekend they're having the last national event of the year, in Pomona. They just got thru with the 1st round of elims. Six Pontiac powered cars survived. Five of those are 1st gen Birds.
In round 4, Randi Lyn ran her dial, but lost. Leo got the bye and will get to represent Pontiac power, on Sunday. He'll have a heads-up race with another C/SA car. Good luck Leo !
Well, I couldn't pull up the site, since this happened, but I've got good news. Leo not only won his C/SA heads-up run in the quarter-finals, but went on to win the Wally !!!
I assume this is the quickest 1st gen Bird Stocker there is. He ran a let-off 10.33 in the heads-up run. Anyhow, he won Stock Eliminator at the last national event of the year, with old fashion Pontiac power !
So, congrats to Leo for doing a great job, with his 1st gen.
