My shifter boot was shot so I ordered one from Ames last year and replaced it. My boot was the original OEM boot was factory installed, and the acordian was directed to the exterior (not into the interior). Several restorations that I have seen have the acordian into the interior for console applications and am curious if this is by preference (and correct).

Restoring and maintaining old cars and old boats....oh what fun we invent for ourselves. Seems to go in stride with ....You don't live it until you own it....Three steps forward....two steps back ....
If you are asking if the boot comes up into the console shifter cup, that would be no. You can only see it looking down into the cup, and you only see it at the bottom of the hole. You don't really see the accordion part really.
If you are asking if it should be upside down and more like a funnel down and you have a pocket going down, I would think not, never seen one like that. You would get a lot of dirt and garbage built up down there.
I agree with Harold. I just replaced mine (from Ames) and it looked correct. I remember Ames having a couple different ones listed though. Only one is correct.
