I'm in the process of replacing my leaf springs. My springs support weight just fine. My ride quality is just fine too. Since replacing the SIX with a 350 I have severe axle wrap. I have 5 leaf springs. I'm going to install the heavy duty 4 leaf springs.
I've removed one spring. The free arch measurement of this spring is 7". The stack height of the leafs is 1.625". My question is: does anyone have the free arch and stack height measurements of the HD 4 leaf spring?
BTW, the free arch is measured between the center of the spring eyes down to the top leaf at the center pin. _________________________ 68 Sprint, 3-speed (at least it was) Powered by Chevrolet now with an AutoGear 4-speed
I just ordered new ML-1925 4 leaf heavy duty springs from Eaton Detroit. I am upgrading from the 5 leaf Sprint springs to the 4 leaf 400 springs. I asked about the spring arch and Eaton said a replacement 5 leaf spring has an arch of 6.625". The HD 4 leaf spring has an arch of 5.25".
This is quite a difference from my spring. My car sits [censored] high IMO. My wheel arch is 27.25" up front and 29" in back. I'm hoping the HD spring will make the back sit a bit lower. I realize the shorter arch won't necessarily translate into lowering the car. The HD spring requires less arch than the SD spring. I will find out soon enough.
