Hmmmm... Hirsch mails me this:

"
Dear Sir,

Thank you for your order for the 4 aerosol cans of the Pontiac Blue engine enamel. There is no longer any sea post, so now, everything must go via air post. The only problem is that we are not allowed to send aerosol cans by air post., If the postal people find out that there are aerosols in the package, we can get a big penalty fine.

I can send you a quart can if that is ok with you which would be $ 39.00 for the quart can of paint and $ 65.00 for air postage right to your door or a total of $ 104.00- You have already sent us $ 43.00 via Paypal, so you would have to send an additional $ 61.00 to complete the order.

Please let us know if you want us to send the quart instead?

Thank you- Bill Hirsch"

Bummer! I need aerosol cans! Is this true, these cánnot be sent to Europe?

Anybody any ideas...?

Do you have a friend with a small compressor and a cheap paint gun? Get the quart and spray the motor with that. It should turn out just fine.

Make sure you or your buddy thins it out to the desired flow rate for the gun. I am no body man, but I bet there is someone on here who can help you with that.

Better yet, why not use the Duplicolor DE1616? Paint that YOU CAN get in a rattle can on your side of the pond. DE1616 is excellent quality, Ames sells it #: FN410, and I haven't seen a shred of evidence that he sells a superior product.

You posted a pic of you or someone else, holding a can of SP-122, that is for a 71-73 engine. Go to the same store that can was purchased at and get a can of SP-142. VHT paints makes colours for different years just like the rest of the manufacturers do. SP-142 is supposed to be the correct colour for your engine and it's obvious SP can be had where you live.

But if you can get the duplicolor 1616, I know it's a good match.

Thanx Bluebird. I believe VHT SP-142 is discontinued for some reason!

But I found a dutch shop that probably has duplicator 1616; thanx!

Look at the paint in the battery relocation post, duplicolor 1616

Here's some shots of it 12 years after painting, about 25k miles later, thousands of heat cycles

Man, that paint stood up very well, I'm glad I used it on mine. We'll see if it looks as good in eight years and seventeen thousand miles.

It's excellent paint. If you look cloesly, the 'grime factor' is the forensic evidence for the time-line, the valley pan, the long-term mico-seep of gas from all the 55 gallons of gas dumped down the secondaries, around the bolts, at the edge of the cast-flashing and the npt plug in the last photo. (blocked crossover) Of course surface prep is key because nothing will stick to rust and grime.

I treated the intake with electrolic reduction, because I didn't want to erode the cast flashing, and it's still so sharp that it will lay your fingers open. It came out excellent; even so, I spent mega-hours on the intake and over the entire engine with an assortment of wire brushes on a drill. Next, I kept flushing the surface with k-1 kerosene, then I let the kerosene sit for a couple of months until it was clear and burned it in my kerosene heater. Then I flooded the surface with thinner.

Wow, that is/was quite the prep regime! But you cannot argue with results. Great work Amervo,
