Getting ready to install new Muncie shifter linkage with trans in the car. Where can I find the alignment tool to first align the shifter? Or is there something else that can be used?

Also, I've seen several step by step instructions on the web on how to align rods correctly. Is there a step by step guide you all like to use?

Thanks in advance.

You can use a drill bit that fits the hole if you don't have the tool.

Jdc68bird, I've set up many of these and have always got by with anything, even a nail, that fits well in the hole. First line the shiftier up with the pin/nail. Adjust the shiftier handle though the console or boot using one of the linkage adjusntsts, (while in neutral).
With the handle where you want it, connec the rest of the linkages to the trans. They all need adjusted to slide in without binding. Then tighten the shiftier to the mounting plate.
Have a good one!

From the Hurst website...
What is the proper way to adjust my Hurst four speed shifter?

There is a 1/4 inch hole at the bottom of the Hurst mechanism that runs through all three levers. This is called the neutral alignment hole.

To ensure proper adjustment, run the shifter from first into second and then back to neutral. Insert the neutral alignment pin (or a 1/4 inch drill bit) into the neutral alignment hole.

If the 1-2 lever interferes with the smooth insertion of the alignment pin, remove the 1-2 linkage rod from the shifter and thread the adjuster button either in or out to eliminate the interference.

Repeat this procedure with the 3-4 lever and reverse.

To adjust the stop bolts, back the bolts out of the shifter frame until only a few threads remain. Push the stick firmly into third gear and hold. Screw in the stop bolt until contact is made. Release the stick and back the stop bolt out one turn and tighten the jamnut. Push the stick into fourth gear and repeat the procedure.

Sorry, I failed to specify I was using an actual Muncie shifter along with Muncie linkage. All is new, so it should work as intended. I was able to use a feeler gauge, as the alignment hole is flat. I was able to get 1 thru 4 gears lined up and it will go into reverse, just really hard to go over and up and once in reverse, it wants to stick in reverse. Thoughts?

Also, the output shaft will still turn while the trans is still in neutral. I don't have driveline hooked up yet, so can't tell if I would be able to stop the wheels with my hands. Is this normal? This is a newly rebuilt trans with new bearing, clutch and flywheel, if that makes a difference.
