I know this was discussed before years ago but just want to confirm some answers. My shroud is off and will sometimes hit the fan blades on the passenger side. The replies I remember is that the engine was from the factory installed off center in the engine bay towards the passenger side to allow for room for the steering shaft I believe? Anyways, I checked all the obvious like engine mounts and radiator support/radiator installation. All looks good. I also remember discussions about using the wrong fan shroud, i.e. Camaro shroud would cause the fan/shroud to be off enter. I believe my shroud in original but is there a for sure way to tell? What else could cause the shroud to be off by ~2 inches?

I was having a similar issue. I had a 4 core Harrison radiator from a camaro. OL IL tanks but the radiator measured the same and worked great. However the shroud on the bottom passenger side would want to hit occasionally. Seemed like the clip on that side was just a little to loose or something. I ended up holding it over with a piece of wire down in the corner a little and that took car of it.
Now I just put in my correct radiator with the OO IL tanks. Put on the same clip strap to hold the shroud and now the shroud fits perfectly and has plenty of room in that corner.
Don't know if the size of the tank had any thing to do with it but they appear the same. Something is different because the shroud sets perfect now.
Yes, I know what you’re saying, I “fudged†mine for years but want to get it correct. I have the original radiator with the “ON/IL†tanks but the location of the shroud is set by the bracket, engine (fan) and the shroud. As I mentioned previously its off by a lot! Drivers side I can get 3 fingers between fan blade and shroud whereas on the passenger I side have maybe ¼†clearance. I did several comparisons of the Chebby and Firebird shroud and it appears I have the correct shroud installed. I have the 2 notches on top and it optically looks like the right one. Seems like such an easy thing to correct, but dang! I’ll keep on investigating and post an update as I find things and will take a couple of pix as well.
Looking at the shroud from the top, the top/high point on the shroud opening should be offset toward the passenger side about an inch from the top bolt.
