What end result are you trying to achieve? Even a driver would likely cost as much or more in parts than just picking up a different project or vehicle in extremely better condition.
What condition is the body in? How rare is the car model? What is the original color combo?
Most used, crusty parts are not worth the effort to re-install without minor/major rehab.
If the body-mechanical parts are still in reasonable condition, selling those to go towards a better-suited project may get you further ahead.
Send me an email with pictures so I can get a better idea of where things are at.

Very good point. But most of the heat likely went up perhaps leaving the side sheetmetal/doors useable.

If the only thing that was left was one tire I'll assume the other three caught fire, that would be one hot fire indeed. I would also be worried about the caustic nature of the smoke/soot. We had a fire in our shop a year ago and all the bare metal on our milling equipment began to corrode instantly. I envision your car rusting from the inside out eventually. I would think you'll have to have the car acid dipped as that soot gets everywhere.
Actually the majority of the car has been MUCH better than I could of expected. The only two spots that has been bad are the front rear spring perches areas on the floor..... and the roof....
I was lucky to have had frame connectors with aluminum bushings in to of kept the car straight. No sag at all. The subframe was bad before the fire.....it was no worse after, but sitting in a grassy yard did rust it out the rest of the way. I got a nice solid subframe at the "Back to the 50's" swapmeet and the car rolls nice.
the body is good, I am planning on quarter panels eventually because its a "Minnesota car" so it was a 3-patch panel & bondo car so when the fire happened, all that bondo burned off and left the fenders in good shape. Now that they make panels exactly for Firebirds those are next when I get that far...
to answer something.....this car was THE last thing My late father bought for Me before he died.....I had promised I would finish fixing it along with get My Bachelor degree.... I have the latter as of this June - a Degree in Design Management..
....the 68 needs to run ....I was buying parts for it 2 weeks after the fire happened. ....but took a "break" during school,.... so now I'm looking for the finishing parts.....
Please help with whatever you have...... Let Me know!! Interior parts in any shape or color.....

Have you looked on craig's list? I have a bunch of parts listed and have some parts not listed on craigs' list too. I live in Mound MN. 763-913-9573. By the way, if the body putty melted off the metal, the metal got too hot and the metal is junk. Just saying!
