Any one have an extra WQ block and set of 16 heads laying around? What is fair price for correct block? and heads? Prefer both to be around end of May and First of June. How about a M22?
Other than the code..the block is nothing special. If you don't have the original block, no point on looking and paying a premium just for the code. With that..the heads are ordinary #16s found on any other 68 and command only what their condition is.
If it were me..and it was that important..cover up the code with paint.
You will not get any more for the car with a non original WQ block over say a WZ.

I feel like the troll sometimes but I still refuse to believe that having a WQ coded block, which would be correct to the model but not the correct EUN, would not sell for, or have more value than a car with just any 400 in it not correct to its model.
I believe Having a documented HO car is rare even without the motor. WQ blocks are also rare so having one is also an advantage. But pair the two together even without the correct EUN is going to bring a higher value!
If you built a GTO clone from a Lemans with tri power, it WILL sell for more money than just a Lemans, look on any auction site. And that is for a completely incorrect car!
I am moving forward on my plan of what I guess a purist would say is a "tribute" car. But I will be proud of my Documented 68 HO car with the correct dated and coded WQ block, correct #16 heads, correct intake, oil pan and exhaust manifolds the only difference would be the EUN and at a car show no one would ever know that didnt match only during the sale.

It is your car dude, be prooud of whatever makes you happy. Maybe it would bring a little more money.. idk. I think Banshee was just trying to help you with some financial advice from his experience's. And yes- WQ blocks are fairly rare.
Keep us posted on progress!

Wont cost me a dollar more to rebuild a WQ block than a WZ so dont see much difference. at the end of the day what makes the HO car and HO? The HO motor and thats still my take. The best advice would be from a person who had an HO car with a non numbers match motor. Not the person with a matching #'s car.

The last person I remember that was in the same boat as you spent the better part of three years trying to sell their car with the same argument. (They were missing the original engine too)
Each time I saw his car advertised, the price dropped considerably. I don't know what it finally sold for, or if it even sold, but it was nowhere near what he thought.
I totally get what you are saying, and overall I agree with you. My point is ...is it worth more with a WQ block... probably, yes. But likely only a few hundred more at most over a standard YT or WZ. Nowhere near what the correct EUN would bring. I think that was also what Banshee was trying to say.
And your GTO/LeMans statements (IMHO) can get lumped in with Camaro's and their outrageous prices. They simply are more desirable cars. I still don't get that, but it sure seems to be true. So people are willing to put the blinders on for those cars.
