Good deal! Just use the 'vette battery, and drag that out to the curb with a "free to good home" sign on it.
Problem solved! You came to the right place.

I would've guessed bad starter but it's best to start at the beginning and thats the battery. From there, on to the cables and connections and so on. Sounds like you found your issue with the first thing( the battery). Good deal and easy fix. Our premium gas is only 91 Octane here in Cali. It's pretty awful. Probably the same quality as low grade gas from way back when but if you can run 91 or better you should be good. There are other things like if the filter sock on the sending unit in the gas tank has deteriorated and sucked particles into the carb clogging passages. It happens after time. You might be in for a tank cleaning and a carb rebuild to get things right.
Yes, it Looks like am the lucky guy by finding it on the first try. But that's thank to the brainstorming here! ;-)
The carb is out of the box, so I will put this in the end of the line. To me it felt like the idle issue is gone with the battery, but that's hard to explain and understand. If it is like this, I won't ask. :-)
I could take it out for a Little spin around the block. I had the battery changed to a 640 CCA and everythign seemed to work fine. The idle was a bit high (1000 rpm), but I did not stop or splutter when getting warm. And after switching the engine off, it immediately started again.
So, the engine was warm, but not really hot. Maybe that's the next step to check.
I did! I turned it down to about 700 rpm and it runs as smooth as never before! And still no starting issue when warm.
Next step to get it out on the streets is, to pass the safety inspection. Everything is fine - except the horn does not work. I am checking this, but do not find the horn relay. But there is another thread in the forum for it.
