I have been collecting parts for future 69' 350 build. Auto trans. Will use 4bbl iron intake. Not sure most other details. Some overbore. Bigger than stock cam. Ported #17 heads. Many variable tbd. Found a local totally rebuilt Q jet. # 7029262 69' 428 auto carb. Price is good meaning I think I can get it for $350. Wondering if it will be a good choice?
The question isn't so much if a QJet in general is a good choice.. although I do love a good carb debate... but if this particular QJet fits the bill?
Hey UConn Cornelius, That carb will be a good choice. The main differences in our Pontiac carbs is in the tune and that can be ironed out once all the particulars of the engine are finished. The best way to tune is on a chassis dyno where everything can be set perfectly for your car and engine combo. Some of the details are secondary flaps, jetting, and accelerator pump adjustment and more. Break out the pick axe, your going to need all that silver and gold.
Hi U yes, that 9262 would work for your 350 especially since you're OB'd and ported heads. Like Barnbird mentioned, you'll need to test different jets and needles. Also with today's fuel (less octane and lead) you might need to make some adjustments to your air & fuel bleeds. Involves micro hand drill bits to open them up 1/1000's" The 9262 is a desirable model (and it's a Pontiac), not the highest demand but would work well for what you described. $350 seems a bit high unless it's totally rebuilt, matching numbers and tested.
