I am in the process of installing a PUI interior kit in my convertible I have covered the rear bottom seat frame with vinyl and am using 1 1/2 inch foam. Along the back of the new cover (3 inches from the back is a rod for hog ringing the cover to the seat frame. There does not seem to be anywhere to hog ring to on the seat frame other than the springs. Does anyone have any advice on where the seat cover should be attached to on the frame?
These photos from my '68 may help. The three taken on the blanket were taken of the factory originals before I took the rear seat bottom apart for new upholstery. The one taken on the tile is the underside of the finished seat.
(Time flies. I noticed the dates on the photos. Hard to believe that I replaced the upholstery over 17 years ago. :o)
Thanks Jim they do help. Do you recall if used foam or did you stick to the cotton batting? I am using 1.5" foam and am finding it impossible to stretch the cover all the way over the frame.
I started out by attaching a layer of vinyl then attached 1.5 inch foam. I am having a hard time hog ringing the cover to the frame having to go through a layer of foam and then through the vinyl to eventually catch a spring. Unfortunately it has been along time since I took the original covers off and I am now wishing I would have documented how it needed to go back together.
The only part I am having issues with is the back part of the seat. Three inches from the back on the cover there is a rod that needs to be hog ringed to the frame. There just doesn't seem to be a good place to attach this rod to.
