Hi all, I have a very early 69 Firebird, there's a heavy green wire with a red (plastic housing) female spade connector that gives power only in "run" position, which is not being used. Its just over the drivers side floor courtesy light under dash. Does anyone know what this was for? Possibly for convertible or defog switches?
Does it have the look of a factory connector? Usually, Green is a ground wire. I believe there are wiring diagrams posted somewhere here on the website. If not they are inexpensive from a lot of the Firebird aftermarket parts suppliers

Ok, so I dug in there and actually cleaned the wire a little better and it actually appears to be brown. Here's a picture for you. The pigtail is really short so not sure what it would have been used for as that's as far as it comes to the front. EDIT: just to be clear, I believe this to be original as the wrapped harness was untouched.
I will see if I can see anything on mine, as you mentioned before it could be for the power antenna or the power top on a convertible You also mentioned it is hot, is it hot wiht the door closed? Do you have the under-dash courtesy lights? They were standard at one point then removed and made an option to cut the cost of the car I just was reading on the changes during the year that the Firebird went through in a book from Rock Rotella, lots of good info for the first gen as reading material He also has a great Pontiac blog
I honestly do not know, so next time I have power to it, I will definitely check out if the door has any affect on it's power. Yes, I do have the courtesy lights and mine is one of the first 8,000 built so I'm pretty sure it was still standard at that point.
Interesting info you shared and I thank you for that!
EDIT: Had another thought for why the connector is so far back in there. If this is for one of the many option switches, they have a good size/length harness that would easily reach back in there.
If you already have the courtesy lights I am sure it will not have any effect, the one thing to do would be to find out if it is switched power meaning is it powered all the time with the car off or if it powers up when the car is turned on, more than likely when the ca is turned on. There are very few things that stay powered with the ignition off Courtesy Lights Clock Headlights and taillights Cigarette lighter Emergency Flashers
Those are a few that come to mind
