Has anyone installed a interior liner on their convertible top?
I have a convertible top and it does not really have a liner, did the factory tops come with an interior liner?

If so, does anyone have pictures they can share of either the factory liner ort the aftermarket liner?
If you have the aftermarket liner, how hard was it to install and are you happy with it?

Thinks
Bernie

I don't have any pictures handy, but yes, all convertibles came will well liners.
Not that hard to replace when replacing the top.
Also replace the top pads when replacing the top.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Thanks, but I had heard there are actually inner liners for the inside of the convertible top as well now
Classic has them Part number RCH10, and it is an actual top liner for Convertible

Thanks
Bernie

Interesting. I've never seen that product before. I question what the lowered top would look like and highly doubt you could get a boot on it. Might it even stress the pump and frame folding it?

I know that, back in the daily driver years, even after being serviced and working to specs, my 68's AC would never cool the car down to where I would be comfortable after it has sat in the sun all day at work. That thin black top would radiate heat faster than the fan could pump out the cool.

I did notice in the Classic catalog it is made by Acme. Reminds me of Wile E. Coyote equipping himself to get the Road Runner.

I had never seen or heard of it before either. I’m going to see if I can get further information. Good points on the things to look out for as it is I also have a boot from Classic Industries, and that thing is a [censored] to get on. Lol!

These guys have everything you could dream of.

But no, the original tops never had an inside "head liner"

The closet you might get would be the fabric Euro style tops they offer. The inside might be nicer to look at.

What Pontiac did do at the factory is add a thick insulating liner to the convertible well material to some 1st Gens.

To date, I have not found a repro replacement for that liner. I have spent hours and numerous inquiries to convertible top specialty vendors trying to find a suitable replacement material.

Also, I can find no documentation that shows which cars got that extra insulation other than in the 1968 Pontiac Sales Manual page Q-2. In a section describing "Special Acoustical Features.", they state: "Certain 1968 models have added acoustical features to enhance ride, comfort and quietness.".......and...... Convertible also have a heavy cotton-fiber lining in the top storage well to muffle out noise in that area."

That liner was very fragile. As mine crumbled into the trunk during the daily driver years, I finally pulled it off the thin liner and discarded it.

Called them this morning, very helpful, 6-8 weeks from order as they are custom made. I was hopeful after looking at their website that they also had a conversion kit to go from manual to a power top, but they do not have it for the 69
Thanks for the recommendation!!

Thank you for the information, Jim!!! I was surprised when I saw this item, below is the verbiage in the catalog on page 274 of the current catalog

These new headliners are designed for use on
convertible Firebird models not originally equipped
from the factory with an internal headliner. Once
installed, this ready made headliner will greatly
improve the looks of the interior, cut down on noise
and help insulate against extreme temperatures. The
top can be raised or lowered without removing the
headliner. No special tools or knowledge is required for
installation! Manufactured with plush Velour materials.
RCH10 1967-69 black ................. 199.99 ea
RCH91 1991-92 black ................. 179.99 ea
RCH94 1994-95 black ................. 179.99 ea

Re: Manual to power top: Are you planning on replacing the top frame? The manual and power convert frames are different so a conversion is not recommended. The hydraulics of the power need a different rear hinging design to handle the stresses of being lowered from back of the frame.

Re: Note that the liner I referenced as factory equipped is only the material in the well separating the interior from the trunk, not a main top material.

I would love to do a conversion, but I believe it may never happen as to cost and time.

I do understand the Well Liner but i was definitely intrigued by an interior liner that would help with sound and comfort.

THX!!
