Anybody know whats going on here? I'm in the process of updating the shifter guts, and these bushngs look like they're melted/press-formed in.... Can anybody identify what this is? Should I leave it? Seems solid enough...

10-4... got an interesting response from Paul Cangialosi at 5speeds.com "Hurst shifters never used the rubber grommets, it was always vulcanized on the factory GM pieces or metal to metal. " I must still have the factory original... leaving them alone because they're still solid... THX for the comment, Bob!

The factory hurst shifters seem to have them. My aftermarket hurst shifter does not. GM may have wanted the shifters to feel more refined. That rubber stuff looks to be in pretty good shape. I bought a rebuilt one and the rubber stuff was mostly gone
I have repaired plenty of these shifters. the rods wear out where they go thru the levers so i weld them and grind them to size. then i use bronze bushings in the levers. Like new again.
