Has anyone compiled a definitive list of differences for the '68 RAM AIR II Firebird? Hoping to use it as a check off list when/if verifying the authenticity of a RA II bird
The Definitive Firebird & Trans AM Guide 1967-1969 has several pages discussing the '68 1/2 RAII. Included in those pages is a Pontiac memo with a list of equipment needed to convert an early '68 RA I to a II. The list includes several different engine parts, exhaust manifolds, distributor, and carb.
If I was looking to find an original '68 RA II, I'd want to see the PHS for the car and compare the engine codes, numbers and VIN. The exhaust manifold numbers are very difficult to see but I believe the RA II may have had 96 heads which should be a visible number.
Yes. It's the way to find out the options on the car when it was ordered and built. Then the numbers on the PHS can be used to compare with what is on the car. In 55 years, a lot can be added, replaced or removed.
Do you have an opportunity to buy one of the 110 '68 RA II's made?
