I want to change out my highway gear set (2.56 I think) for something with a little more go (3.55 or 3.73's). Am I right that my saf-t-trac carrier will not support a ring and pinion change to that gear ratio? Will I have to change out the entire carrier? Any truth that spacers can be used??
If thats the case BIG $$$$. Anyone want to swap highway gears for smile factor gears? Any recommendations on alternatives? I'd rather not swap out the whole housing, just the carrier, ring and pinion.
If a housing change is the best option, does anyone have interchange recommendations (chevelle, camaro .... what years??)
Derek, I would suggest using the 'search' above, right underneath the 'POST NEW TOPIC'. You could put 'differential' or 'rear end' in the box and limit the search to tech and you would get a ton of info you are looking for.
Thanks for the advice. I tried that but did not find any definitive answers on the subject. There is alot of questions regarding gear swapping but no one really answered the questions. I'll take my questions to another bulletin board for a response.

No, it will not. And Yes, you will have to. I know nothing of the spacers.
And Derek, these question have been answered many many times. You need to take the time to read all the posts in the threads. Good luck finding a better place to ask.
